Just got back from Iraq tonight and have serious jet lag. Sitting here going through some of this stuff and got to thinking about some odd sights..............
I was at Camp Slayer and saw a soldier in full combat gear with an M4 strapped to his back riding an unidentified full suspension bike down a dusty hardball road...................... if it wasn't so incongruous it would have been funny.
I was out at VVIP and saw a dusty (but new) full sus bike with "CHICAGO" on the down tube. There was so much dust on the drive train it was entirely brown at the d-rail.
Hopped a couple of Blackhawks to Ballad and halfway there I notice a knobby rear wheel in by the starboard door gunner. That made me go hmmmmmmmmm.
Lots of "city cruisrs" at the Villa and CPA.
The bottomline? There is MTB'ing in Iraq. But those things are pulling duty.

You certainly weren't gone too long. I thought deployments are for months at a time. Were you there for something else? I had a friend who was auditing the spending over there. He was there for 6 weeks. He's one of the people who discovered the trumped up Haliburton charges. You left on the 12th and you're back already.

I left on 3 Dec and returned last night (15 Dec). Some things take longer than others. I've been doing this (intel) for a LOONG time now so I don't deploy to an area like that unless I have a clear objective and preset "events". Semper Gumby dictates that I be flexible so you do what needs to be done.
