Yeah... I don't like how he referred to the other "clean" sports. And this paragraph was almost a message to cycling to quit exposing doping cheats.

"I think weightlifting understands, as cycling understands, that there is a huge risk for both those sports if the cheating is continued and continued to be exposed.''

Maybe it was a bad choice of words. But the other thing is his statement that there 4,500 tests during this Olympic competition. That BS smokescreen doesn't work anymore. The IOC/WADA have hundreds of millions of dollars that they could be invest in anti-doping. The real doping is done out of competition. The in-competition testing is mostly PR BS.

He's an idiot. He made comments in the Australian press last week that he hoped there wouldn't be any positives in the 100m as it would affect the credibility of sports. The bloke needs to engage brain before engaging mouth. I'd be more worried about the credibility of sports if there weren't positives.

Then why did he put the last phrase in ("and continued to be exposed"😉? If cheating happens... the exposing of it should be taken for granted. You don't need to add it as an "and". It's redundant... unless you got a problem with the cheating being made public.

It would be like saying you didn't want to see bad gymnastic performances and for them to be exposed in the scoring. It's redundant.

The subtext is clearly - "if you keep catching dopers you'll be excluded from the Olympics." What a spanner.

I think cycling should give the middle finger to the Olympics if they get any more [censored]. Cycling doesn't need the Olympics. It would reduce the influence of Verbruggen and the UCI as well. I thought WADA were the good guys.

As runitout has said, Fahey is a spanner.

He was the bloke talking about the markers put into CERA to help detect it, which was then denied. Maybe it is true, but they don't want people to use the generic rip-off version, or maybe Fahey got it wrong. Either way, he shouldn't have said it.

I think he used to play second-row for Canterbury-Bankstown in the NSW rugby league. I don't know about his playing union; he might have, I suppose.

On one occasion when he was Premier a student with a knife came after Prince Charles at some big do. Fahey (and another bloke, I think) stopped him, so presumably he can tackle.

edit: according to wikipedia, it was a starter's pistol, not a knife, and Ian Kiernan was the feller who helped him. That sounds right to me.

Nah... my mistake... I think it's another "Fahey"(??) that played second row for the Wallabies in the early 80's. Like you said... John Fahey played League.

Apparently had 24 caps from 1971. Played a bit for Wasps as well, it would seem. Too long ago for me to remember him; I wonder if he played in that brawl against the Welsh in 1977-odd?
