[censored]. Last year I did it in the opposite direction
and my luggage weighed about 10kg. Obviously you'll be
travelling in a different style/ accomodation/ timescale
etc. ......but, I think you've definitely made one very good
decision - you'll need to be nice and fit before you hit
Cornwall with 37kg. on your bike!

that and it was for two =:-0

I like to travel/camp in relative luxury. I carry two stoves
(and therefore two gas cartridges), radio/palmtop computer,
frying pan, two saucepans, espresso pot ... it soon adds up!
Add to that the two cameras, tripod etc

Usually we take two stoves here too usually, a mini trangia
tucked inside a standard trangia, although for E2E we used a
MSR Pocket Rocket and two cartridges .

One digital camera, small tripod.

Still cannot fathom why your kit weighs so much.

Fair play to you. Anyone who takes an espresso pot on tour
gets my vote for urc most stylish tourist 2004. Should your
eccentric route take a bizzare turn theres b+b in Dublin for
you - I like decent coffee.

at least the bypass is. Not that doing the trip inside 2

I was ditto-ing the offer of a room. I hope the bypass isn't
on the route, as it is out of bounds to cyclists.

You can't come on the Internet and expect people not to
gratuitously misunderstand any trivial ambiguity you may
happen to utter ;-)

It was on the route in 1992, when I did a bit of support
crew on a record attempt. No idea what's changed since then
(think that he used a bit of what is now M74 as well.
Indeed, may already have been M74...)

Not with the RRA, which is a shoestring operation of the
first order; more a matter of temporary blindness on the
part of the rider concerned. The A74 *might* just have been
re-classified between the reconnaissaance and the mission;
it was very unclear (and full of roadworks), and when you've
just ridden Lands End-Carlisle and are 30 minutes down on
schedule, you don't hang around to research alternatives;
the Edinburgh by-pass was just a normal bit of A road at the
time. No idea where the current record-breaker's route goes,
since I don't really know the area, but I'd guess it remains
whatever mainish roads are closest to a straight line from
Moffat to the Forth Road Bridge.
