I doubt it - I was in Madrid last weekend for four days, speaking English, and had absolutely no
problems at all - and the Times said that 90+ percent of Spainiards oppose their government's
support of the war - there were two anti-war rallies while we were there.

I just would't wear a UK jersey in France - ever. Partly because I don't want to look too touristy,
partly because I feel that if I'm going to wear one I'd better do it credit - and I'm in no
position to do that.

My French colleague says that coverage of war in France has been very sympathetic to us Brits;
comparing our 'gentlemanly' campaign against US gung ho overkill and incompetance.

I always wear trade jerseys as I like them. In France I have had no bad encounters whilst wearing
any sort of jersey. The best reception was probably wearing my Casino kit on Col de la Madeline
during the tour in 1998. Makes me feel more continental and that way I enjoy my trip more. On the
other hand if you want to stand out as a British

preferably stretched out of shape by too many miles and washes, have NO colour in your legs and ride
a John Bull (who ?) frame. Go one step further and shun all things continental by having a holiday
in England instead.

Get a team jersey, let your mind go and your body will follow.

I wish someone would reproduce some of the 80s jerseys such as Toshiba, Lotto

One would hope that the French are in general aware that there is plenty of British opposition to
the war, too.
