Thanks for all the replies. The Raleigh Striker and Kobo both look like
good bikes, but one concern I'd have is they have quite a high
crossbar, wouldn't that be difficult for such a young rider?
Frustration doesn't bring out the best in her, to say the least!

I looked at the Decathlon range (at www.decathloncycle.com) and they
look OK, but I'm unable to tell whether in this case cheap means good
value or just cheap! I guess I should go and check them out.

In my experience, I'm a CTC qualified instructor and primary school
teacher, young children don't have a problem with crossbars. Teach
the child to tilt the bike towards them before stepping over. Adult
novices appear to feel safer with step through frames.

I feel so confident with the Striker that I'm considering a purchase
of 6 to bring my total to 8. With those and 8 Hot Rods I could teach
half a class of Year 2 children cycle control skills at the same time.
I just wish the Striker had three gears instead of one.

The Kobo is discontinued, so you may be able to find some bargains
around. The trade price for the Striker is £46 + VAT, retail price
£90 inc.
