A very good point.

If people could avoid the temptation to dishonestly selectively quote or at
least to admit it when caught out, it would go a long way to keeping things

Yep,I've said the same a number of times of the last year. I was a
regular reader and writer on this group, but it is just too much hard
work to sort the rubbish from the readable now, so it is rare for me to
read more than 10% of the posts.

If required for the pedants, I will gladly back the formation of a
uk.rec.cycling.advocacy group, of which this group now resembles, and
then get this group back to a more interesting, rather than a
boring,repetitive,vindicative read.

Can't speak for Ewan, but I went to the baker's for our breakfast
goodies and later on a selection of supermarkets and down to town on
various errands of business and pleasure. Glorious weather, and my
eventual perusal of urc afterwards was gloriously free of the likes of

A bit OT, isn't it?

Anyway, nowhere really interesting. The longest ride was from Notting Hill to
Ealing (including the really, truly, wonderful, Shepherd's Bush roundabout) and
back. (which, I have to admit, is one of the few places I actually feel
apprehensive when approaching).

Traffic was light on the way out so I was able to induge in a fun bit of
synching with the traffic lights going down the hill approaching the 'Shepherds
Bush' Hilton.

had our first MTB ride this year. T'was lovely - went over to Crummackdale.
Recently fettled forks were working very well, which was nice. Minor
chainsuck towards the end was less so, but at least the front brake started
working rather better than it was at the start of the ride. (pads still
suffering from when the fork went pop and dumped oil everywhere.) Were
pleased to clear the top track from Feizor to Austwick (the southernmost
one - recently we haven't made the bridgy-lumpy bit in the middle). In some
places it was still a bit wet - there wasn't much grip on some of the grass.
But otherwise sunny, scenic and generally marvellous.

I'm glad you had a good time.

Pity I had to help spoil it, but I really hate people abusing statistics and
although you hadn't done that you rather got caught up in the general maelstrom.

And, of course, I felt a right twit when I spotted my 'fifth-form' error and
wasn't best pleased that it got dragged out so, not in the best humour by then.

Wearing a helmet didn't save my co-instructor 3 weeks ago.

I took a group of 7 Level 3 cyclists out to experience cycling at
night. We cycled to Oxleas Woods and stopped for a snack and a drink.
In the gathering gloom, the kids were arsing about (off-bike) on a
grass bank and one child kept slipping down it. My co-instructor gave
her his hand to help her up, lost his footing and ran down the bank.
He landed on the side of his foot, his ankle broke and the bone
protruded.

We were 300m from the nearest road.

After phoning for help, and doing what I could with my limited 1st
aid, I left him with four children, giving instructions to keep
talking to him and not let him sleep, I went off with 3 children to
guide the ambulance and meet the police.

It took 45 mins for the police to arrive, and 70 mins for the
ambulance. By the time the ambulance arrived he was hypothermic and
two of the children mildly hypothermic. It's nuts that it took so
long for help to arrive in London.

Anyway, he's very philosophical about it, and the children consider it
the greatest adventure of their lives. He's in plaster for 8 weeks,
and has been told it will take about 6 months to return to normality.

Anyway, he was wearing a helmet at the time. It kept his head warm
for 70 minutes, so it had its uses. I am always quick to point out
when asked, this was not a cycling accident, it was a walking
accident. He was, I suppose, wearing a pedestrian helmet.

Yep, you're right. I've got to apologise for troll-feeding myself. I had
thought these guys were cyclists, but clearly they're not.
Mostly polite though , I must say that for them.
