  1. I just can't quite use this when describing food. Footwear, yes, but
it gives me the shivers to tell someone the pickles or food I'm making
is "to die for." We just gotta think up something else. Here I'll
    start the list:

Supremo, dahling! (When in Germany, we used "primo!"😉
    You'll never get enough ....

I don't suppose you'd want to say, "These are killer pickles!"?

Or, more seriously, "One is never enough!"

I've used, "You'll find yourself on the floor, writhing in ecstasy,"
but not everyone is comfortable with that, either.

It is always a little disheartening to hear a woman describe a rich, sweet
dessert as being "better than sex".

You just don't have that do or die spirit!

There was a burger joint near UC Davis in N. CA called Murder Burger.
It's motto: burgers to die for. It was well known and respected for
its great burgers for many years.

  9. How 'bout just skipping the dying part altogether and going straight to
    the gran finale:

    "these pickles are heaven!"

of course, if the pickles aren't that good it could give the
impression that maybe heaven isn't all that.

I'd suggest you not use, "these/this is/are ____ heaven" too lightly.

No one has yet mentioned "delicious." I vote for "delicious." Also:

It would be nice to have the opportunity to provide a basis of comparison.

"orgasmic". tee hee hee. When I was in the restaurant business, I had a
customer that was the poster boy for the failures of the pubic school system.

His enthusiastic response to,"how's your food?" was always, "It's good
enough to give ya an organism!"

I actually worried that he was saying that it was of such poor quality as
to make him sick, until the day he came in with some of his friends and
bemoaned his newest dilemma. He said his wife had been to the doctor and
that after so many years on "the pill", her body needed a break.
Exasperated, he complained, "Aw, man .... aw, man.... now I'm going to
    have to use a condominium!"

Oh, they know what they're doing; they just don't care about doing it well.

In the 1960s when "better than sex" cake came along, I remember all the
women whispering the name as they laughed and made funny faces. We didn't
say the word, "sex" out loud back then. So, the cake became the "better
    than...you know...er, uh ... 'it'" cake.
