It's deer season in NC, and man is it obvious.
Yesterday on a ride, a family went "flying" across
the trail 100 feet in front of me, 5 of them, one
after the other. I was thinking that if one hits a
rider running that fast, it could spell serious
trouble - for the rider!

Keep your eyes and ears open. Hunting season will be upon us soon. When
that time arrives, I start wearing flourescent colors and singing when I
ride. My voice not only scares the deer away, it terrifies the hunters too.
Nothing shakes me up like a quiet ride through some blissful forest and then
getting the [censored] scared out of me by a barrage of gunfire. Sometimes it's
close enough that you're never quite sure if you were a target.

In the late 70's use to see multi families deer
crossings all at once. Fayetteville to Montose NC.

Some of those guys shoot at anything that moves. Some would-be deer
hunters I know have given it up just for that reason.

no hunting where I usually ride, so it's not unusal to see a "herd" hanging
out on the singletrack. Futher up in N. GA it's a bit more of an issue 🙂
