  1. Ever notice how many items are "systems"? I once received as
a gift what I thought was a nylon camera bag. But the tag
describing its features and pockets called it a "system." A
camera-carrier system. I laughed so hard that everyone else
in the room ended up laughing too, like that scene in Mary
    Poppins at Uncle Albert's place.

I've noticed the trend in commercials, too. It's not
"furniture polish," it's "furniture enhancement system" (or
some such nonsense). Although I haven't seen a burger
called a "beef-bun system" (yet), I won't be surprized when
    it happens.

I thought of this when I was making potato salad as
requested by a friend. I have an easier time giving her
American recipes for cakes, etc. because they usually have a
specific recipe. But telling her how to make stuff like
potato salad is a bit more dicey, because it's not really a
    recipe, it's a system :>

Sue(tm) Lead me not into temptation... I can find it myself!

You're way too late... the original Big Whopper (BK) was a
Burger System.... where the patrons brought their naked
burger to a salad bar of sorts and added ALL the
condiments themselves. Which ever corporate head ([censored]
head) abandoned the DIY Burger System forever relegated BK
    to it's No. 2 slot.

Hmmm, a potato-enhancement system, designed to increase
palatability? Goes great with my chicken-frying system. ;-)

ObFood: Going to a family BBQ on a lake today -- now that
the storm is gone, we've got excellent weather for it. I'm
going to take some baked beans (recipe given to me by a
    good friend):

    Baked Beans

    48 oz. can Pork & Beans 2 T. prepared mustard 1¼ C. brown
sugar ¾ C. ketchup 1 lb. bacon, cut into small pieces ½ C.
    BBQ sauce (optional)

Preheat oven to 325° F. Grease bean pot. Add all
ingredients and stir well. Cook for 4-5 hours. Stir several
    times while cooking.

Not exactly home made, but still quite tasty...

And if the dice is too small it's not a potato salad, it's a
    mashed-potato-and-mayo system.

Good plan. I like to toss in some diced peppers and onions
as well. Mostly bells, and a few jalapenos cut in a smaller
    dice than the rest.

Try adding some sliced red onion. I like to use about quarter-
rounds, but cut them however you like.

I would also use BBQ sauce instead of the ketchup.

Oooooh, that sounds like a great idea! I'll try it, and
share with the friend who gave me the recipe. Thanks... :-)

I guess we're thinking 'outside the bun', eh?

Try this: lose the brown sugar and use genuine maple syrup
in the same amount. Now _that's_ flavor!
