Aha - so it should be Demon providing the DNS? Odd, they are usually
good (I assume they no longer charge 300 quid a go for .uk domains?).

There is no propagation delay with new domains - as soon as the relevant
tld servers (Nominet's in this case) have the records, traffic should be
directed correctly, so the non-appearance of the www host's A record
means Demon's system hasn't created it yet.

Basically, if someone's not been to the site before, and no-one else
using the same DNS recursive servers has, then what happens is:

Local PC asks ISP cache for IP for www.nohelmetlaw.org.uk.
Cache doesn't know, goes to ask root servers.
Root servers say "don't know, but .uk is at ---> Nominet.
Cache asks Nominet servers for www.nohelmetlaw.org.uk.
Nominet's servers say "don't know, but nohelmetlaw.org.uk is ---> Demon.
Cache asks Demon's authoritative servers for www.nohelmetlaw.org.uk, and
they should say "we know, x.y.z.a".
Cache reports IP to local PC, local PC connects to x.y.z.a and asks for
the website via HTTP.

Note the short-cut, AFAIK Nominet's servers mostly serve both .org.uk
and .uk from the same place, so they cut-out the business of asking the
..uk servers where .org.uk lives as they already know the answers to the
next level down, nohelmetlaw.org.uk.
