  1. Bad luck that is. Beautiful Norcal Fall day with
    temps peaking near 70.

    #1:

3 1/2 hours into a backcountry penetration mission
I encounter a first since I started mountain
biking, eons ago. Somehow I flipped a large branch
into my front spokes in the middle of a nice
    rockgarden.

    Result:

Gouge almost to the bone on left shin, strained
neck (helmet saved my life!!!!!!!!!), crackly
shoulder with an overlay of bloody rash, bruised
elbow, puncture wound thin on forearm, sprained
    wrist, slit right knee.

    #2:

After wasting the 35 minute techfest descent
because I'm having trouble wrenching on the
handlebar with my right wrist and while nearing
what passes for civilization once again (read: car
with beer) I pass a bevy of college coeds (really,
it was a Dear Penthouse Forum moment...) hiking up
and then I reach a crux move where the trail has
fallen away leaving about a foot wide tread next
to a drop off and fence with a tree hanging over
the trail at an angle. Because my wrist, etc. is
messed up I hug the left side and squeeze under
    the tree. I thought.

In reality I was too close to that side and my
pack wedged against the tree such that my boys
were slammed down against the side of my ass
hatchet saddle and I emerged on the other side of
the tree feeling like Andre The Giant had just
kicked me in the balls. A few times.

    #3:

After the world stopped spinning I started to ride
the final 300 yards to beer and not 50 yards from
the end of the trail I splashed trough a cold
puddle. Except there was no water on that portion
of the trail. I looked down at my cold shin (not
the one that was lanced and bleeding) to see a cup
cake sized pile of cold dog [censored] perfectly
centered between the top of my sock and the bottom
of my knee warmer. And all over my crank, seat
    stay, brake cable, etc.

    The end.

    Going to Vegas now.

Ouch. The only time that has come close to happening to me was when
some psychopathic 10 year old hiker tried to throw a 3" dia branch
through my front wheel. Thankfully he wasn't successful. And
thankfully I was mellow enough from the endorphins that I didn't kill
    his dad.

    Nasty!

For me that last bit is the worst. Don't get me wrong I'm sorry to hear
you crashed and got your nuts squashed, but you got up, the bike was
still ridable and you carried on. Those sort of moments when your
hearts pounding, adrenilines flowing and you take a tumble and brush it
off and carry on sometimes give me a another rush like "Come on!!!".
Like when you take a big tackle in rugby (or football) and just carry
on 'cos it's all part of the game.

And [censored]'s just f%^8king [censored]. At the end of a ride like that I'd have
been just [censored]. I hope somebody had a cold beer ready for you.

    Laters,

    Marz

you only get two and you have to brace yourself for the third.

Different strokes, etc. but Vegas has been very,
very good to me from a dining, all-around fun

    Bootleg was ok too.

I'm just not as gamey as you. I do agree that there are some excellent
    eats in LV.

    Quoted message said:

Now that I don't have the need to keep traveling in a southwesterly
direction while in LV, I should get out there and sample some of the
riding. Then again, going an extra 100 miles and landing in the land
of crappy eats, weak beer and excellent trails is pretty enticing.

Definitely. I've only been there once just to go, and a few times for
work. The one trip I voluntarily took was on the way back from camping
on the beach in Baja for a month. We spent most of our time in a town
that only had electricity from 8-10 each night. We left our extra shoes
there for the locals who don't have much.

Then the shock of Vegas after that was just too much and I couldn't
    stand it.

I haven't done that yet. It's on my list for next time I receive a Vegas
