  1. I go out for a ride, and after about 10 minutes I feel like turning back, I
feel tired, then suddenly after about 20 minutes, I am full of beans and I
    can go all day.

    Is this normal ?

I am fairly fit, and ride about 150 k's a month.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,

Well given your email address I would suggest the following. Find a
really, really, really big hill/mountain. Drive to the top with your
bike in the car. Then get on the bike and roll to the bottom of the
hill. That way unless there is a rise midway down you should get to the
end without being tired at all. As long as you can find someone to give
you a lift at the top, you could continue this all day.

If you can't get a lift to the top to include the bike, then purchase a
set of GVBR bikes (available on ebay) and set them all up at the top
(don't worry nobody will steal them). Then you only have to worry about
getting yourself back up to the top each time, although if you leave too
many GVBR bikes at the bottom you may be charged with littering. Now
that I think about it I might change all my training to work that way.
If I never get tired while training that must mean I'm very fit. Also,
not pedalling would reduce wear on the groupset and bottom bracket (okay
there may be some trade-off here with brake useage). In fact you could
probably remove the pedals, chain and gears altogether.

DaveB "if training makes you tired you are going too hard"

    Age?
    Any medical conditions?
    How are you warming up?
    Type of riding?
    Surface(s) you are riding on?

    5km a day?
Some people would say that that isn't even a warm up, nor aerobic.

Basically, as you get older, you need to ride more regularly as it is
easier to get out of condition and harder to regain it.

  5. Sorry, 150ks per week.

    Cheers,

I had the same problem when I lived in a place where the first 2kms in all
directions was up hill... now I have the reverse, so I get a good 2kms to
warm up before going hard.. climbing up into home always hurts!

Starting out for a 40km ride on the flat when I was back home for xmas, the
first 20mins I was thinking 'how can I keep this up'.. then I just put my
head down and thought about all the training I'd put into my riding and got
on with the job.. 120km more before 11:59pm Friday and I'll have the 1000kms
for the month, almost there! 🙂

    cheers,

It's perfectly normal. It's why athletes "warm up" before an event. The
"juices" take a while to get flowing.

    Cheers,

You can get psychological counseling for it, but it is considered normal.

  10. I get it too, & I'm normal. So it's normal.
For me it happens 10mins into a run, 15 mins into a good ride. Usually first good uphill & brings me up to temp.
Just need to get over that little hump & you know you can power on.
I think in running they call it 'the zone', you break this barrier & feel like you can run forever at that tempo.

I have the same problem, especially when its cold. Thats why i always start my ride with a 2km 4% climb; gets the juices going and reminds me how much i love to ride

  12. I feel the same thing. I just take about 15-20 minutes to get warmed up. Basically, my riding buddies know what to expect. We ride, then I have to stop, walk around, stretch a little, and then it's go time.

  13. After about 100km busting into a head wind, I am totally buggered. Is this normal? Well all those people who go past in cars think not!

    Very, very normal (unfortunately). {:-(

Those people have absolutely no idea what the weather really is with
their air conditioning and video screens.

I don't want to scare you, but especially if your in your mid-years, and you
suddenly get tired when exerting yourself, I'd get a medical checkup.

    Henry.

Dont worry about it I'm fifty and it happens every time I ride after a
break its just the older body waking up and trying to clear the [censored]
out. I usually start out keen as can be then think what am I doing
then shortly afterwards I'm off and running. You dont need to run to
the doctor every time you body squeeks, try looking at your diet and
make sure you drink enough water. Our bodies are so full of [censored] from
the food we eat and the poisons we expose ourselves to every day. Do
yourself a favour get a good book on food additives and you'll see why
you feel like [censored] for no reason.

    just a thought,
