A hose clamp will do the job. Or you can buy cages with clamps, that look very much like a cage and a hose clamp.

And no, it won't look particualrly good. Your other option is to get one of those behind the seat ironman style bottle cages. But people will pay out on you.

Had a cage put on my old roadie using clamps (went to Mascot Cylces)because there were no braze ons on the downtube. As shabby said, it didn't look great but worked fine.

I just bung one in my jersey pocket. It's a little less than handy, and the weight on my back is a pita, but ya have to make sacrifices for your art.

PS: Actually the fixed wheel frame I'm building at the mo will have mounts for a bidon cage, as I'm sick of not being able to carry water. I figure any cred it loses in having bidon cage mounts will be regained in being very shiny.

If its not a good frame (re: not butted) then you can drill holes and use self tapping screws to hold them on. Or just recently I saw an ad for an old skool bottles in front of the handlebars cage holder! (no link cause I don't remember where!)

The second cage (seat tube) on my road bike is a plastic clip-on monstrosity. Looks just less ugly than 2 hose clamps holding a normal cage. Does the job on a frame with only one set of mount holes. I'll check the brand if you like.

Some bike shops have a u-bueat rivet set which works like a big pop rivetter and leaves a nice threaded 5mm bidon boss in your frame without any need to paint afterwards.
Same process as used on current aloominum bike frames.
