Is there a place for bicycle art?

Yes, thank you for putting a name to my memory. With the futurist bent the focus is on the everyday aspect of cycling, which seems to be an older european idea to me. (You'll have to forgive me, I'm from North America.) Cycling seems to have retreated as a cultural icon recently, with the exception of fat-tire madness.
Mallard's Reg Harris portait 'Lap of Honour' is pretty sweet, it has some herioc qualities to it. It is somewhat more thematic with the sepia tones, a little more stylized.
What I'd like to see would be a USSR take on cycling, triumph and perseverance shining through sort of thing.

Could you imagine getting stuck in an elevator with this
guy? One of us would have to die.

=v= I personally love the Art Nouveau stuff. Also the
Art Deco stuff (and the Deco-influenced _Tintin_ posters
with bikes).

Those are beautiful, so much of personality on each bike. I wonder how much one could command for a portait of a bicycle? Is this along the same lines as a rich patron getting his mistress' portait done?

I believe that bike art could be popular in europe like
Dutch or Italy or any bike friendly nation. I don't think
it ever going to be popular here in America except for
commerical purpose.

I knew a guy who got moderately well compensated by hanging
around marinas and painting pictures of boats. He'd pick a
boat that was obviously expensive and well used, the owner
would inevitably show up and buy the painting.

It helped that Bill (not his real name) was an excellent
painter and a moderate salesman; to the mark, I mean boat
owner, his prices were reasonable.

He made enough money to support his family and start his own
successful boatbuilding business, I mean this guy was one of
those people who could land on his feet if the gravity were
turned off.

I never asked but I think he got about $1000 US per
painting, and he cranked them out for a while.
