  1. Hi Folks,

Is there a low carb substitute for flour?

I am interested in making some LC deserts with Splenda.

    Is there such a substitute?

I already googled it and found substitutes made of beans (carbs), no good.

    Thanks,

    J.

  2. Flour is not low carb.

    good.

What kind of desserts? Different substitutes are used for different
purposes. I'd suggest you Google for 'low-carb cake' or 'low-carb pudding'
or whatever the specific kind of dessert you'd like.

For pancakes some people use various 'protein powder' mixes. Jenny's page
has recipies using "Precision Engineered" brand iirc. She might have some
for brownies and things like that too.

Other things use 'almond flour' or 'flaxseed meal' etc. Those might work
for almond cookies (like in a Chinese restaruant) or shortbread etc.

Some desserts might not need any kind of 'flour'. Puddings can be made with
eggs, tofu, etc. Fudge and things like 'chocolate decadence' can be made
wihtout flour, with some substitute like nut meal; they're mostly cream
cheese or butter or soemthing anyway.

There's also chickpea/garbanzo flour that is very low glycemic, ie slow to
absorb. It still has carbs, but you won't get them all at one time.

    Skinny

  4. I've started using Carbquik which is an LC substitute for biscuit mix, but
I've never found a good substitute that's totally like flour. A lot of
recipes call for protein powders and/or ground nuts, but they just don't
work like flour in converting regular recipes. I'm still experimenting
with the Carbquik, but so far any recipe that uses Bisquick (or it's
    clones) is working well.

Hey, what a great idea! Community public service announcements!

I think that I'll try one:

JC Der Koenig is not high IQ.

  8. John, don't waste your time on this person. S/He does this to everyone and
you'll be much better off if you create a killfile to delete her/his posts
rather than responding to them. And as you spend more time in this group,
you'll probably find some others to add to your killfile. Unfortunately,
that's life in unmoderated newsgroups like this one. Just ignore the
    idiots.
