I've got a new CS200cad so set the whole thing up properly on the bike today. The computer is mounted on the stem. The cadence function works fine. But my speed sensor doesn't seem to be working.
I messed around with various settings for at least an hour before I finally found a 'sweet spot' that sent the signal to the computer unit. Then, on my ride today it stopped working. I've tried mounting the sensor on both sides of the fork and even moved the computer onto the handlebars. The sensor was never more than 40 cms from the compuer (the manual says there's a max range of 50 cms).
Is there a special trick to mounting the sensor? It's weird that after an hour of struggle I did manage to get it working, only for it to stop on me during my ride.
I would guess the unit is defective 🙁 . Setting up the speed sensor should take no more than 10 minutes and the fact that you needed to spend an hour seems crazy. Send the unit back IMHO

That's what I figured. The only reason I spent so long adjusting it is becuase I though my chunky ultegra front brake might have been interfering with the signal path.

You need to fix the speed sensor very securly to your fork.If it moves only n little bit you will lose the signal.Try something like cable ties or something similar.Your brake will not be a problem.🙂

I had the same thing happen to me with the CS100. Polar replaced the Speed Sensor and it's worked great since. Just a pain having to wait another week before being able to use the computer.

The speed sensor was defintely DOA. I returned the sensor unit and had a new one sent out. Apart from the inconvenience of having to wait for the replacement to be sent out it now works fine. I have subsequently learnt this is a common problem - somebody I was speaking to in the LBS told me that they had to send the speed sensor back TWICE!!
But I am really enjoying using the. Yes, the cadence and speed sensors are very fussy but it's a great deal given all the features you get for the money.
Word of caution though - it must be said that the wireless readings aren't as reliable as the wired readings on my very cheap Cateye model. I did the same 22.5 mile course a week apart with the Polar CS200 and it recorded a difference of 0.4 miles. This seems a large degree of variation over a relatively short distance, even allowing for the fact that there were probably differences in the tyre pressure on the 2 different rides.
Same thing. DOA. Disappointing. You would think these guys would have some kind of quality assurance check process like the other businesses in the world. Maybe they don't want to stay in business. I may just return mine and go with a brand I can trust. Took a chance, very frustrated, would not do it again.
