  1. Popped out for a quick 30 miles before lunch - glorious cool day in
sunshine but a rather biting wind. Up the North face of the
Hertfordshire hills onto the top of the ridge with glorious views.

Normally I would see at most 2 or 3 other cyclists out. Today I must
have seen about 30 (admittedly including two club runs). Also lots of
joggers presumably getting ready for the London Marathon.

But I've never seen so many people out exercising and on a rather cool
day at that. Is all this plugging on in the media about healthy living
starting to have an effect on people?

I rode out along the main road to Comrie and home by the back road this
afternoon in similar conditions to those you describe and must have seen
about 7 or 8 people on bikes, mostly looking quite serious, with bike
shop gear on. It was noticeable though that most of them were well into
middle age. I see very few young cyclists round here other than
occasional kids in the town on supermarket mtb's. Still, I don't
suppose it matters too much if people get the message after a good few
    years of couch potato-ing.

And what's wrong with that :-)

    Envy.
    Comrie is lovely wee place.

Tony's post inspired me to get bum on saddle.
A quick pootle around Rotherhithe and down to Deptford.

Spoiled by somebody swearing at me from a car.
I waved a car forward where the road was narrowed by some parked cars.
Raised a hand in salute, and got a cheery wave in return.
The following car decided to hang of my wheel and sound the horn.
    I shouldn't have given a two-finger salute, but...

[censored], it did on me. I watched the film Super size me last night.
Scared the cr@p out of me.

Ah, that's sort of my neck of the woods too (I'm further into Herts
but occasionally do a 40-miler round the villages into Cambridge).

You really feel the wind at this time of year when you get into
the flat bits of Cambs (brr, shiver).
