For the past two, almost three years I've been heavily involved with riding and recently I've been wanting to go further with riding... possibly joining a team! Win every race you enter, moving into CAT 1 and not at all, shouldn't be a problem. The oldest proffessional rider in this years Tour De France was 41 and I don't think he retired after this past season.

There's racing to be had for virtually all ages. If you want to race, then go racing. It's not too late to try, and there certainly is no way to know the answer to your question without trying.

It's never too late...
... at least it's never too late to start racing.If you really want to take the plunge and try and progress through the ranks from Cat5 through to Cat1 you'll need a racing license.
That's the official website where you can get the rule book (very important) and your license. You're probably better off waiting until late December to get your license as it'll be good for next year too. If there are local races being held before then you can always get a one day license and just have a go.
All you really need is a bike that's safe, helmet and lots of power. Some dude turned up to a local crit with an ancient rusty bike and a pannier rack on the back... He got lapped but he certainly went down trying. More power too him...

It's not required, but you will need to belong to a club. Find the clubs in your region and join in on their rides. Your best bet will be a well coached development club, one that can bring you along from rank beginner to, say, cat 2 amateur.
