  1. Just felt I had to have a whinge. For the past few weekends I have been out and about on the roads near home. Its been really good weather and as always I take the time to say hello to cyclists heading in the opoosite direction. I don't know if I look like a dodgy character but hardly anyone speaks. The road bike guys are the worst - maybe its because I'm either on my MTB or "shopper". So - is it just me?

Well I've just come back from a pootle round the lanes and I
have exchanged greetings with all the cyclists I passed -
and none were on road bikes :-)

    Cheers, helen s

    I'm a roadie and I'll wave to anyone! If I don't wave it's
either because I didn't see anyone, or I'm pushing 180bpm
    and about to die :-)

  4. i'm a roadie and wave to all cyclists, even get an occaisional nod from motorbikers.

I even nod/wave to the tourists on bikes in the New Forest. Neck hurts when a convoy of about 30 go past though!!!!

When I'm cycling around the countryside I always look at
other cyclists and speak to those whose 'body language' is
sufficiently relaxed to make me feel I wouldn't be intruding
    - its the 'intense types' who only grunt (if they do
    anything at all!).

Around town (when conditions permit) any such mutual
recognition is very rare indeed - too close to home I think!
    🙂

  7. Coming down Whiteway Hill towards East Lulworth at about
    70kph, I managed a "hello" to a fellow cyclist. I couldn't
tell you what he was riding, but it was a bicycle. I think.

Fantastic ride on Saturday BTW. Did a big chunk of the
Dorset Coast Audax route, except with fine weather and
views! Did Abbotsbury Hill again. Up and down -- then back
up again past Hardy's monument and back to Wareham via
    Dorchester.

    Larvely.

I always make a point of saying a cheerful good evening to
roadies as I pass them. On my tourer. With mudguards. And
lights. And a rack. With luggage. Oh, yes, I always say
    hello as I pass ;-)

Cyclists are people too. Some are obnoxious, some are
delightful and some are dull. Some are sociable and
    some aren't.

Of course, all roadies are more intelligent and better
    in bed ...

I'll give a wave (at least lift a few fingers), a smile and
a hello to any other cyclists passing, handlebar-style
regardless. Even when I'm in no mood for smiling toiling up
some stupid hill with a stupid headwind. Now there's
    dedication ;-)

This happens to me. It's because they don't want you to
know about teh party. Whenever I go out on my bike, I see
loads of cyclists going the other way, but very few going
the same way, so I start to think maybe I'm going the wrong
way, and there's something a hell of a lot more interesting
back where I've been. This happens from the moment I set
out, so what I reckon is, what fits the evidence, that is,
is that as soon as I go out, the wfie phones or textses or
emails every cyclist in the area and says, "The old sod's
gone out, it's party time." This is confirmed by the fact
that when I turn round to come back home, most of the
cyclists I see are on the other side of the road again,
going in the opposite direction, AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. You
think I'm going to wave at those b*****ds whos been
partying at my house behind my back?

    Hi Steve

I doubt it's you. When riding my road bike I greet other
riders on similar bikes. When on my rigid MTB-lookalike hack
bike those same people don't return my greetings. Perhaps
it's my fault in the latter case for being a POB rather than
a cyclist. I wear the same clothing in both cases.

Having said that, my greetings are not exactly effusive. I
usually just look vaguely (vacantly, perhaps) in their
direction and give a rather inane grin.

Depends how much EPO they are taking.

Depends on situation. Very cheery = 4 fingers and thumb.
About to die = 1 finger.

They're all sulky sods round here too. If you're not wearing
a helmet they take special pains to stare straight ahead. At
least I know how to ride a bike without falling off, you
    miserable snobs :-P

So that's it. That all makes sense now. When I leave in the morning my slumbering wife always insists that she is about to get up and clean the house/ do the washing/ go to the supermarket etc. When I come back the house is in a worse state than ever. And those b*****d roadies who have been at the party have drunk all the milk as well. Inconsiderate or what?
