  1. I saw a note on teletext about the Tour de France, and the comment was that the organisers thought
that 45 Km per hour was too fast.

Personally I prefer to call it 25 mph, but then I'm an old fashioned Englishman!

Do you know 45kph is quite a bit faster than 25mph? It's roughly 28mph.

Have the nat. TTs gone metric? I thought they've been 40k for some time now. That's maybe a
couple hundred yards less than 25 mi.

    Don't forget the other 5k/3.1 mph. 45kph = roughly 28 mph.

For an ITT, 45 kph is pretty awesome.

Silly me, divided by 9 instead of 8!

But would that be considered to be fast?

Fast for what?!! For racing bikes? Of course not.

For going up a long 8% incline, very fast.

    Going down same hill, no.

    An all out effort, no.

I made a mistake, the Tour de France organisers were saying that 40 km/h was too fast!

Sounds as though they have no idea what they are talking about.

Ahhhh. Now I understand the context for your question. The overall average speed of the winner this
year was the fastest ever, at 40.94 km/h.

This is discussed elsewhere in this newsgroup in two threads with the words "Le Monde" in the
    subject heading.
