Worked out that it would cost about ZAR385 for my selection - ouch. I
won't look at the wine list... but you can pay that here too at some of
the better places. Boss took us to lunch 5 years back - about 9 of us -
he ordered 3 bottles of local cab. sauv. at ZAR900 (NZD214) a pop.
Can't remember the name of the winery, but it shore was good heh heh
heh. Shudder to think what it would cost today. And our wines are
    supposed to be reasonably priced.

Would also like to try the Mahi Mahi, but NZ lamb is just too good to
    resist.

Happy anniversary! and thanks for the invite.

    Cheers

Great choices which together, my husband and I also matched. He had
the lamb loin and sweetbreads and the baked cherry bombe Alaska. I
tasted both of his dishes. Delicious. The lamb was very tender and
    pink in the middle.

I had the Mahi Mahi, which is not a fish we get here usually. The
restaurant gets it flown in from Fiji, I was told. I liked it very
    much.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. You must come again soon :-)

While I'm having a coffee at home after our lovely night out, I'll
    type up a review.

The Welllington Sevens final was on today, so town was empty when we
arrived as everyone was at the stadium. The Sevens, for those who
don't know, are a series of rugby tournaments played in NZ, Hong Kong
and somewhere else that I've forgotten. It's a series of seven aside
matchesplayed for seven minutes each half. The Wellington tournament
lasted two days from about midday till 9.30pm . The crowd dress up in
various weird custumes and it's as much a party as a series of
matches. (Fiji won, beating South Africa in the final).

It was a hot night and because of drink-driving worries we decided to
get a train into town and taxi home. Town is a 12 minute journey by
train then the restaurant was a 30 minute walk. But the night was
fabulous and it was good to work up a hunger. I was ravenous.

Once seated, we were offered water -- sparkling or still? I'll have
tap water I said. The waitress laughed.

Our wine arrived, a bottle of sauvignon blanc from the Marlborough
region, a label I'd never heard of before. It was very nice.

The kitchen sent through a bouche amuse, a paper-thin slice of beef
carpaccio with interesting things on top. Lovely.

We had freshly made bread rolls with butter, and a small dish of olive
    oil and balsamic vinegar.

    My entree was
Sauteed Scampi Tails with Grapefruit Fennel Slaw, Crisp Prosciutto &
    Mandarin Oil $27.00

The proscuitto was fabulous, very thin, very brittle but not hard. The
scampi was very tender, but the slaw slightly overpowered it.

    My husband had
Cervena Carpaccio with Truffled Pear, Macadamias, Saute Mushrooms &
    Porcini Cream $27.00

The little he allowed me was lovely :-)

    For mains, I had
Mahi Mahi with Waikanae Crab Cake, Salsa Verde & Gribiche Mayonnaise
    $37.00

The fish was moist and flavoursome. The crab cakes were soft and
moist, almost all crab and a dressing, not bread-type filler, I think

    He had
Lamb Loin with Sweetbreads, [censored], Sweet Pea Custard & Pinot Noir
    Jelly $38.00

His lamb was wonderfully tender, about 6 medallions cooked to
perfection, pink inside. The sweet pea custard was interesting. I'd
forgotten how it was described on the menu and when I tasted it
thought it might be avocado based. The pinot noir jelly was too sweet
for our taste. It topped the pea custard, rather like the topping on
    creme brulee (only not burnt!)

    We ordered two side dishes.
    Oven Roasted Portobella Mushrooms $10.50
    Mixed Green Leaf Salad $7.50

The mushrooms came in a very generous dish. We ate half. Hardly
    touched the salad.

    I was full.

No dessert for me, except I told the waitress I'd have a taste of his.
I went outside for a smoke (smoking banned in all public places here
in NZ). While I was out the waitress brought spoons and forks for
dessert and told my husband the fork was to protect his dessert from
    me <grin>
    He had
Baked Cherry Bombe Alaska with Pinot Noir Syrup (flamed at table)
    $18.00

I don't know what the cake-base was. It wasn't sponge, but something
heavier. It was topped with some kind of berry sorbet or ice, then
vanilla icecream and enclosed in soft meringue. I tasted each layer.
My husband didn't stab me with the fork.

No more for either of us. It was still a lovely warm night, so after
paying the bill (NZ$218, phew!), we decided to walk back to the
station and see how the town was buzzing since the rugby had just
    finished.

Ever realise when you're swimming against the flow? The stadium is by
the railway station and everyone was heading into town to hit
restaurants and bars. We caught the train home in a very friendly,
convivial carriage full of happy rugby-goers, or going homers.

It was a lovely evening and thank you to all who joined us, even if
    only in dreams.

I think that is really something, I actually know couples who do not

I for one can live without the dramas (if I was married)...

but i have heard, that marriage is dependent upon sex communication and

    it takes a good balance

i was married, she would argue over money during sex, i couldnt get a

I am curious, are the entrees what we would call in America
appetizers? Our local upscale restaurant has appetizers, mains, and
    dessert, nothing called "entrees".

What a gorgeous selection! I think I'd opt for
carpacio or Parma ham, followed by duck. Dessert would
be the hard choice--either the poached peach, assiette
    of chocolate, or currant/Kurant sorbet.

Thanks for dinner, it was wonderful! I hope you enjoyed
