Quoted message said:I shopped around for buildings and contents, and First Direct seem to
have a more enlightened view than most. You can add cover for bikes
outside the home and they only want to know the value of the most
expensive one. What - an insurance company finally accepting that you
can only ride one bike at a time?!
They still fail though - maximum value of 1500 quid isn't enough for a
decent tandem :-(
CIS home policies allow you to add on bikes as separate items to insure, up
to an individual value of 2500. I've added three bikes to my policy (1500,
2500 & 2500) and it cost an additional 74 quid for the year.
I then failed to renew the CTC insurance to cover the more expensive bike
very promptly (6 weeks overdue), and when I phoned yesterday they said
"Because you've taken so long this counts as a new policy not a renewal, so
you lose all your no claims discount". I didn't even know I was getting a
noclaims discount, let alone I was risking losing it! This took it from 424
for insuring 3 bikes with a cumulative worth of 6000 to 450 quid to insure
one for 4500! They were expensive to begin with, but that was ridiculous.
So I'm back to shopping around for that one. And about to find out how good
the CIS claims service is with my nicked Marin. With everything I've added
on I've realised it was worth nearer 2000 than 1500, but at least that much
will give me a start.
