There is a residential are a few miles from house. In the development there is a 1 mile climb that is the steepest road I have ever seen in my life. I can't even begin to guess the angle but trust me its steep! I can climbe it in my lowest gear with a cadence around 40, but even that is a massive struggle. My questions is----- is this climb to beneficial to increasing my power or should I omit it from my training routes.
Just to give you an idea, the other day I geared up while pedaling(I was preparing to stand) and I felt the front wheel start to come off the pavement.
Unless you race and have such climbs on your race routes, I personally don't see the benefit of riding this climb. It sounds as though it is about a 10 min climb which is really just a routine LT duration. It's too long for even a VO2MAX interval, much less an AWC interval. The low cadence probably raises the possibility of damage to your knees. So, I fail to see the unique benefit.

Thats OK for Strength Endurance and should be in your training plan after a base phase of training to accustom the muscles to more intense riding. After that it doesn't have a lot of use unless of course your races have steep climbs. In that case I would recommend you make an effort to do a lot of intervals up a hill like that.

Im also with rap here, if infact this 1 mile takes 10minutes to ride then its obviously bloody tough and could be damaging. Much better off riding intervals of 10 minutes (6-8km's) on the flat to get your power up aerobically. SE drills are much better done when you can comfortably mash in the big ring uphill at about 50-65 rpm.
By the way rap wouldn't a 10minute effort go way over LT? I know I hit 200 out of 206bpm on a 10km TT and I doubt my Lactate threshold is 97% :p .

Yes, but what I meant was that a 10min effort is just a routine LT interval (e.g., L4 per AC's schema at 91-105%FT) and he's probably limited to ~105%FT. I think that's why his cadence is so low, because he can't really crunch it as an anaerobic work capacity (AWC) effort. So, since the physiological adaptation is that of a plain vanilla L4 effort, one has to ask what the other benefits are. I can only see one -- that of training for climbs of similar grade that he rides or plans to ride in races. What's worse (than there being very little or no benefit), I see a real risk in injury, especially to the knees.

Sounds like a great hill for training on to me. Try riding part the way up for 3-4 minutes, diving back to the bottom and repeating a few times as VO2 max intervals. Very hard in urban areas to find roads where you can go hard enough in safely to do intervals. Hills slow you down enough to make it safe although you might want to think about changing your gears so you can get the cadence up.

Is it beneficial or not for you? Hard to say without knowing a few other things like how much riding you have done, what your training for, what your gearing is and how steep this hill really is.
Many places where they build roads have standards to which roads must be built. These standards tend to keep grades sane. A mile-long gradient of roadway constructed in such a manner would almost certainly have some training application for some segment of cyclists.
