IME all urban riding is like that, with the exception I usually don't stop traffic when I blow through red lights, if that is the case I will go ahead and stop because I am very courteous 😉 Oh and while I hitch rides, I only use the draft, little too parasite-like to actually grab on to the vehicle IMO.

Oh and I agree the guys on fixies do get extra points. 😎

You forgot the to mention that NYC , Boston, Philly, and all those north american cities are pretty lacking on buses compared to our south american cities.

Damn ... I rode my bike literally in "colectivo" alley for blocks at a time. Then it spreads out. The traffic congestion works on your favor because you are the one moving, not them. But when they are moving you better get outta the way (buses).

It was fun to draft buses, and sometimes I would hitch a ride with a flatbed beer delivery truck. Only ask for permission to the crew on the back.

edit: It would be nice to have a fixed gear an overdrive/and or neutral - gear in the hub to rest on the downhills.😎

In any event, whatever you think about their behaviour, those guys have incredible bike handling skills! :eek:

This one is superb. Don't ya think that the guy is just relieved that the driver is an old lady and not a big bloke with a bad attitude? I had to watch it a few times to try and figure out who was at fault here. Naturally, with the way they're riding you assume it's the cyclist, but my "indepth research" has led me to conclude otherwise - the old lady was crossing lanes, whilst the cyclist was just continuing along the highway (I haven't figured the lights out though). But I still reckon the cyclist was glad it was her and not Rocky BikeHater. What I didn't understand is why she was smiling. 😕

Well actually the cyclist is at fault as he had a red light and the old lady had green. I don't believe she began smiling until he apoligized and was on his bike riding away, and it was due to relief I am sure. I really respect the guy for owning up to it being his fault, taking the blame and moving on... actually if he stuck around he probably would have been found at fault anyway.

É verdade... demais ônibus aqui, provavelmente 3 a 1 carro a ônibus e 100 a 1 carro a ônibus em EUA. Mas muito bom por seguindo, não é? Só toma um pouco cuidado e está bem mais rápido do que andando sozinho. 😉

And had to pay for the damage he caused to the car. No wonder he was up and off before she regained her wits.

Preaching to the choir, but my 2cents:
When ever I read driver opionions like this I can sympathize for about 2 seconds, then I remember all of the times someone has come past me with 1/2" clearance going like a bat out of h#ll on a narrow street and I cease to have any sympathy any more and go back to being a somewhat millitant lane user on my bike. The problem is that people who don't ever get out on a bike don't realize just how vulnerable you can get to feeling. If there is plenty of room, a safe bike lane or a big shoulder w/o parked cars I will use it no problem. I'm not out to just [censored] drivers, however, if the road is narrow I generally don't ride all the way over to the right. 3 foot passing rule or not, a lot of people have no idea how wide their vehicles are and if they are going to pass me they are darn well going to have to go over into the other lane - none of this eeking by with a hairs breadth left. If I make them go around in the other lane they usually give me 5x the room they would if I let them squeeze through in my lane.

Lucky for me the laws around here are pretty bike tolerant and we are close to passing a law that toughens penalties for hurting a ped. or cyclist with a car. Our local laws say no more than 2 abreast, and where you ride is your choice -you should ride as far to the right as you feel you can do safely. You can choose to use a bike lane or off street path, but you are not required to do so.

Meu portogese e horrible. Voce dice verdade pra statistica vehicular. Depende la hora do dia, onibus es exclusivo en algunas secciones de la cidade:eek:
