I'll put my dollar on the table behind a tight/knotted muscle near your
knee. The quadricep, calf, or hamstring all connect at the knee, and
tension in those muscles is often first felt as a hard pinch/pain in the
tendons of the knee joint.
Because you suggest your patellar tendon is sore, start with the
quadricep. Lay on your side and use your top arm to pull your foot toward
your butt. You should feel a nice stretching in the front of your thigh,
don't overdo it. Hold for 30s, then gently roll your bent knee in a circle,
moving the stretch around the different muscles in your thigh. If you find
one position that is particularly sore, gently stretch it for 30s, and do
this a few times a day, preferably when you're most warmed up from activity.
Also do stretches for the rest of your leg and hips.
If you don't see improvment in this knee pain within 5 days, then see a
doctor/athletic trainer. I had a similar knee pain caused by a knot in my
calf muscle that wouldn't stretch out with regular stretches. The athletic
trainer used electrical stimulation to work out this knot in just a few
days. Amazingly effective stuff.
