Ok I'm crippled, not from running but from bending over (sorry Smurf, not
that). I was kneeling and heard a POP in my good knee. Now I'm unable to
straighten it out. It feels to be near the inside of my knee, slightly forward
of that, right between the bones. If you think of a clock, and the front
center of your kneecap being 12 o'clock, this is at 1 o'clock.I can straighten
my leg almost all the way out, but then the pain hits.
If you give me some guesses, I am ignorant on anatomy, so give me links to
explain, or call things like my meniscus a "thingammabob" so I can understand
it.

I agree, but my insurance won't cover them, and I have no money to spend on
one. If I did I wouldn't be injured now. -

D] Osteoarthritis is the wear and tear of cartilage. The pain can flare up on a
run or a leisurely walk, depending on the severity and your age. Good news:
Moderate running is okay, Wilder says. Cut back on mileage, hills, and pace
when symptoms occur. Consider getting new shoes after 300 miles instead of 400
to 500 miles. Include a good strengthening program that focuses on hamstrings,
quads, shins, and gluteals. Wearing a knee brace and taking nutritional
supplements of chondroitin and glucosamine also are recommended. -

You MIGHT have torn your thingamabob. (Or medial meniscus). One symptom
is the inability to either straighten or bend at the knee, as the torn
flap acts like a wedge in the joint. See:http://www.allaboutmydoc.com/surgeonweb/surgeonId.2729/clinicId.1432/
theme.theme3/country.US/language.en/page.article/docId.20156There's a lot of pages on torn meniscus, just google that. But this
site has lots of great illustrations. If it is, most meniscus surgeries are done arthroscopically, heal
quickly, and allow you to go back to running. My husband just
had all that done. Three weeks later he's running again.Get to your sports medicine doctor immediately!

lower leg bones), it sounds like a small meniscal tear. This is NOT
official medical advice, just speaking as a long-time and much banged-up
runner here. Very much like the one I was diagnosed with years ago -- in
almost exactly the same place (mine was at 2 o'clock), on the left knee. The reason you can't straighten your leg out is probably because there's a
torn flap of it overlapping and interfering with the joint.Read my previous post(s) about knee problems -- it's not the end of the
world. I'm fine now and no surgery, no pain, and no arthritis. The first
point of business is to back off running awhile, take glucosamine, ice and
heat, and let time have a go at it.If my guess is right, if you visit an ortho, he'll probably twist your knee
around, causing great pain, a popping sound, and get a good yell out of you.
Then, he'll pronounce "Meniscal Tear!" and talk MRI & surgery.Resist the latter.
Good Luck (and I hope it's something else!),
Dan

a torn meniscus, stretched ligaments. When they went to inject dye into the
joint he withdrew blood instead of yellowish fluid.Quoted message said:

I'd be ok with the MRI, but I'll use cruthes the rest of my life before they'll
ever operate on me.

Okay, I don't think it's arthritis, although that may play a part in it. My
question is, how long before it "unlocks" and I can straighten out my leg? -
Also today, I have a small amount of swelling near the bottom, and to the side
of my kneecap. -

you're wasting your time trying to get your injury diagnosed here.
