    Excellent. We listened to that at Christmas. The scene between Judi
    Dench and Michael Gambon was a classic. Our Eleanor was getting quite

    Given that all of the rules of Mornington Crescent can be very easily
    written down thus:

    game will be ruined for ever.

    [3] Is anyone else childish enough to be amused by what ROT13 does to
    roman numerals?

    There is a graph comprising arcs and nodes. The graph as a whole has the
    property that not all nodes can be reached from any given node by a
    single arc (i.e it is not maximally connected). The number of arcs
    terminating at any given node is variable. Arcs can on the whole and
    with some exceptions be traversed bidirectionally. In such a graph there
    must be one least connected node.

    The game is played under perfect information and comprises two (or more)
    players or teams selecting single arcs to traverse from the node reached
    by the previously selected arc. After any node has been reached in this
    way, it is pruned from the set of reachable nodes. The game continues
    until one player or team selects an arc leading to the least connected
    node.

    What could be simpler?

    Not true. The inverse square rule allows various multi-arc transitions.
    (its simple pythagoras. Sloan square + Leicester square = Trafalgar
    square)

    Also not true. A prime example is the Dollis Hill loop where Dollis
    Hill has to be traversed on alternate turns until an appropriate node

    Well of course I started to explain all that but then she shouted, "I'm
    thirteen years old, Dad! Duh!" at me. This stopped me in my tracks as I
    couldn't recall immediately what effect this would have on play.

    Indeed, that's why international competitions forbid strategies based upon
    A*.

    How are you counting arcs? I would expect to count them as
    unidirectional edges so any end of line station has 2. Any station that
    is one way also has 2. Or are you counting the number of discrete
    destinations that can be reached without reaching a point at which one
    may change lines?
    In which case Wimbledon and Morden must surely figure, as would
    Heathrow (Terminal 4 being minimally connected).

    Of course you could play the Fibonacci variant at which point accurate
    edge counting is essential, and dependent on whether you are clockwise
    or anticlockwise.

    The latter stations are some of the oldest nodes and their history can be traced back several centuries, I am unsure of teh exact date, but I am sure someone can find it. Howver these nodes have recently become some of the most connected which the arival of North GReenwich and Canary Wharf.

    By the way does anyone know how the stations on the DLR City airport extension have affected the diaplacement of the transverse nodes?

    No. You can get to any normal station from any other station on the same
    (branch) line, so the number of arcs is equal to (number of stations -
    1). An end-of-line station has the same number as any other normal
    station.

    Isn't Terminal 4 temporarily "out of play" at the time of writing due

    complicate the game still further! Anyone for "Fantasy Mornington
