Looking at MI's glasses that he's wearing in the link - it looks like a shot from later in his career (1991-1993 BigMig usually wore glasses with lenses that concealed his eyes and his glasses were wraparound like this

In "Indurain a life on wheels" book : he has the exact same glasses on while pedalling in the Grand Canary International Criterium in 1994 : but obviously the photo link is from the TDF.

My guess is that it is a shot from late career in the TDF : but I don't know the exact location/time.

I think the photo is from 1995 on a cold day, since I have another photo of Miguel with the yellow glasses and blue culotte together with Berzin. BUT, I don't recall Indurain winning any mountain stage that year. It is strange.

Did he celebrate when he finished second after Zulle at La plane??

I don't think it can be either Cauterets or Luz Ardiden, as Indurain wasn't wearing the yellow jersey for either of these victories. I wonder if it's not a post-Tour criterium, or something?

Doesn't look like a TdF shot to me at all. I don't think I've ever seen a long-sleeved TdF MJ (except on the podium), can't read any sponsors on the jersey either.

My guess is "victoria" in the file name is a reference to Victoria/Gasteiz, a city in Pais Basco, from a regional race. Maybe Euskal Bizikleta 1996 - a stage race that he won.

I think you're right, DiabloScott, that it's not a TDF shot - but it does look like the Tour maillot jaune to me - I think that's the Crédit Lyonnais writing up the side. That's why I go for a post-Tour criterium - where riders show off the jerseys they've just won in front of local crowds.

He is wearing the maillot jaune so it is most certainly the Tour.
He is being followed by the classic red TdF leader's follow car.
The title of the pic is "Victoria" so if he isnt winning the stage he is clinching victory. It is not the Champs Elysee.

It is a yellow jersey but may not be the TdF yellow jersey. I'm not convinced it says Credit Lyonaise up the side but CL sponsors the leader's jersey in other races as well so it doesn't matter. Spanish stage races frequently used the same color yellow as TdF until about 1998 so it could well be a Spanish stage race. The TdF doesn't have a copyright on red cars either. I didn't realize someone might wear the MJ in a post-Tour criterium but that's a possibility. And Victoria is a city in Spain/Euskal Herria which clearly would explain the filename.

I think it was Euskal Bizikleta '96.

My guess is a post Tour criterium (94 or 95...memory is getting rusty) in northern Europe somewhere.....looks cold!

OK, looking again, the red car is definitely an official car (a beacon on top, no bikes) but it also has a Banesto logo on the door, so that surely indicates a Spanish race.

Wasnt "FIAT" usually printed everywhere on the ground both in front and after the finish line in the tour in this period? -when they had all the cars that is.

No. Victoria is victory in Spanish but the city you mention is Vitoria (check spelling).

Victoria = victory
Vitoria = name of spanish city.

I think it was the post-Tour criterium in Moscow in 1995, based on the glasses (round, with the rims on top, with clear lenses--he wore those more in '95 than '94), and the fact that post-Tour criteriums often feature the winners from the Tour sporting their jerseys. Indeed, he won that race, according to this website. I know it is not from the Tour because I saw or have on tape all his stage victories during his run of five Tour victories, which were the only years he wore the yellow jersey. I can't be sure it is not those other races mentioned, Euskal Bizikleta, but I think it is not because it is definitely a TdF maillot jaune; I can see the Credit Lyonnais emblem on the collar, and the words written on the front, and the Giordana (they made them in 1995 only) logo on the shoulder (Castelli made the Tour jerseys 1994 and prior, and Nike 1996 since).

None of that explains the race official's Banesto car. Not saying you're wrong, just that I'm not convinced.
