improvising bike grips

How about a thin foam pad wrapped over with self-vulcanizing rubber tape? Easy to repair.

Umm, is there a reason not to just buy a pair of grips at the lbs, or even at Wal-Mart, for
that matter?

Inner tubes stink like hell. You'll come home smelling like burnt rubber all the time. The cork tape
idea is better, or maybe a couple of those bar end covers, Delta SL makes them. They're like rubber

I used a wad of duct tape once. Lasted about a week before the adhesive got too gooey and the tape
began sliding around.
