True. It's better to attend a Red Wedding than go to Cleveland. For that matter, you'll likely have a better time in Mordor than in Cleveland.

And I did it. My first century.
105.36 Miles, 18.73 mi/h Total time 5:36:13
My pink finger is numb. but I did not cramp up as I took you All's advice and went through I would say 10 water bottles 2 PBjs. 3 bananas 1 energy bar, 1 cookie,
But I did break a spoke at mile 50 thankfully I have the triple a spoke pattern so the redundancy kept me going but its time to have the rim re-laced.
Then there was the bee or wasp that hit my bottom lip at 26 mph and stung me. Nice big fat lip from that. But the swelling has all but gone now just a nice bump from it.
loved the 10 to 15 mph winds that were head on on the way back but that's the way it goes.

That's awesome Dave! I have yet to break 7 hours in a century. Congrats on a great time! Brian in VA

Also note that cramps can result from plain ol' dehydration and can have nothing to do with electrolyte levels....
Agreed and also cramps often occur simply from doing longer and or harder rides than you're accustomed to even if you hydrate well and keep up with electrolytes. Biting off more than you can chew in a fast or long ride or race often leads to cramping late in the ride even if you've kept up with fueling and fluids. IOW, there are lot's of reasons folks cramp and although you should pay attention to fueling, hydration and electrolytes you still may cramp and the only answer to that latter kind is to keep training for the types of events you plan to do.-Dave

If I feel like my calves are about to start cramping, I'll stand up with the pedals at 3 and 9 o'clock, and drop my heels with my knees locked back, concentrating on stretching the calf of the leg in back. Then I do a half revolution and repeat so the other leg is in back. Feels great when I'm 75% of the way into a 60 or 70-mile ride, and gives me a little boost of energy. Heck, I often do it even if I'm not about to cramp to loosen up a little.

To many large angry men in equally large vehicles in Cleveland for my liking.
