I started low carbing again mid September, and was doing quite well.
Started at 205 and am now down to 195. I've doing everything to a T, not
cheating, paying very close attention to the carbs I take in and I have not
gone over 20 a day at all. But now, I'm not losing. As a matter of fact,
yesterday I was at 192 but this morning when I woke up I was at 195... I
don't understand why. I do drink coffee, and diet pepsi... is that it?
UGH... not sure what to do. I walk everyday and am using my 2 pound weights
everyday for my arms. I guess I'm just frustrated. Any ideas?

Good question. I'm a woman, so in my frustration apparently I've forgotten

it takes a while for you to start seeing real fat loss, and that happens
mainly according to how much below maintenance you are eating. If you want
to speed weight loss, eat a bit less and exercise a bit more. Also, using 2
lb weights on your arms is not doing much. Start doing some bodyweight
squats, chair dips, pushups, etc, if you want some real progress. Of
course, only attempt that if you are able. How much walking do you do
(time, speed, etc.)? -
You are too loosing! I started at 206lbs. I lost 2.5 pounds a week for the
first 4 months. You are typical! Low carb is not a magic thing but it does
work. It doesn't all happen over night either. Of course you will flux a
pound or two here and there don't be discouraged. That is probably water
retention weather you are female or male. Don't give up.
(I do drink coffee, and diet pepsi... is that it?) Caffeine and diet
drinks with aspertame are not recomended as they may cause slows or stalls.
You might try to cut them out and see what happens.

Thanks Jennifer.. today I bought decaf coffee (yuck) but I gotta do what I
gotta do. Bye Bye to the diet pepsi too. Dite Rite has a really good white
grape soda, guess if I have to have pop I'll get that instead. Thanks for
the kind words.. I can use all the advice I can get :-)"Jennifer S." <[email hidden]> wrote in message

UGH... not sure what to do. I walk everyday and am using my 2 pound weights
everyday for my arms. I guess I'm just frustrated. Any ideas? It is VERY common for weight loss to slow or stall in the 3rd week. This is
because most of the initial impressive weight loss is water that is bound to
glycogen molecules in the liver. Once that emergency store of glycogen is used
up, THEN the body turns to burning FAT for fuel, which WILL take longer to lose.
1-2 lbs per week is considered a GOOD loss. If you are a woman, be prepared for
your weight to fluctuate with PMS. THAT is REALLY annoying, but there isn't much
you can do about it but stay the course and look forward to the loss that will
happen afterward.--

UGH... not sure what to do. I walk everyday and am using my 2 pound weights
everyday for my arms. I guess I'm just frustrated. Any ideas?A large percentage of lowcarbers appear to stall scalewise after the
first 2 weeks for the next one to three weeks. This seems to have to
do with the body rebalancing fluids after the initial diuretic effect
of the diet, and the fluids mask fat loss on the scale for a while.
Often people lose inches during this time without seeing pounds drop.It is also fairly common for women to only see losses on the scale
during the first 2 weeks of their cycles, while hormonal fluid
retention masks fat loss for the other half. And though it didn't happen to me, many women find that starting
lowcarbing throws off their first cycle or two (which probably has
something to do with the fact that the body makes estrogen from
cholesterol). Some people find that aspartame stalls their loss, but other people
have no problem with it. The same for caffeine/coffee, it's a
"my body, my experiment" sort of deal. One former longtime poster
(K in Cali) found that coffee stalled her, but caffeine tablets did
not.Walking is good for you, but it takes an awful lot of walking
to see results from it. It takes roughly 35 mlies of walking
to burn the calories of one pound of fat. The 2-pound weights
are not going to do much of anything for you, while using
larger weight to build muscle will burn more fat, even at rest.
See http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html for great advice on
women's weight training. After the initial water weight losses, it's extremely difficult to
lose more than one percent of your total weight in actual fat per
week, unless you exercise several hours a day. Weight loss programs
which promise losses of several pounds a week are typically so low in
calories and/or protein that you lose substantial muscle mass along
with fat -- this looks nice when you step on a scale, but lowers
your daily caloric burn significantly, and makes weight loss harder
to maintain.A frequent pitfall for many people, especially short women, is total
calories. I suggest you treat cheese and other high-fat dairy products
more like a condiment than a staple or snack food. This is *not* to suggest you should try to eat low fat as well as
low carb. When low carbing, the majority of calories *should* come
from fats. But most allowed dairy products are about 100 calories
per ounce (a one inch cube for most cheeses), which can add up very
quickly to so much dietary fat that your body doesn't need to burn
any body fat.You might want to track your calories on a diet diary or spreadsheet,
or a site like fitday.comMost people lose weight fairly easily by eating 10 to 12 times their
current weight (pounds) in daily calories. A small percentage, myself
included, find that they need to drop to 8 to 10 times their weight
in calories to lose weight (yet I can maintain fine at 13 to 16).HTH

Your weight is fluctuating due to the amount of water being held. If
you just plot your weight once per week on a piece of graph paper and
look at it in perspective of several months you will notice that your
weight is really declining all the time. Most people lose a few pounds
of water when they start dieting but then gradually gain it all back
and a little more as they continue to lose fat. -
