  1. Apparently, while I was galavanting around West Virginia the past couple of
days, there was a huge fire on the Queensboro Bridge in New York. Everyone
had to literally back off the bridge, in reverse, back onto 2nd Avenue.

The Queensboro Bridge (star of the 59th Street Bridge Song -- "Feelin
Groovy -- by Simon & Garfunkle) has one of the best bike reservations I've
seen: a full car-width lane, set off safely from the car lanes, but still
accessible to them if need be.

They're doing some renovation on the bridge, and the last few times I rode
over it, I got zonked, stoned, and wasted from breathing what smelled like
nail polish remover or model airplane glue. It was being stored under
canvas between the bike lane and the main travel lanes.

From the concentration of the vapors, I should have guessed it was being
improperly stored, but I just figured they were laying down fresh coats of
it. Anyway, that's the area that burst into flames. Hundreds of riders
cross that bridge every day. I wonder if anyone called and complained, and
if so, what happened to the complaint?

Interesting.....hundreds of riders riding everyday zonked, stoned, and
wasted. And I'm getting my balls busted for wearing headphones at low sound
levels while riding unzonked, unstoned, and unwasted (but sometimes
    bonked)...uh huh.

I wonder if the stuff would make good tube-patching cement?

Maybe you should have liberated some :-)

    cheers,
    Tom

Well, at least you have your helmet on, right?

Like so many of the things in New York, it has multiple names just to
confuse everyone else. The Queensboro Bridge is, in fact, the 59th
Street Bridge, but because it's so much bigger than the such-and-such
street or avenue bridge, we call it the Queensboro Bridge. Avenue of
the Americas is 6th Avenue, the Triboro Bridge and Tunnel Authority
handles _five_ boros, the Welfare Island Bridge goes to Roosevelt
Island. The only constant is Harry van Ardsdale Jr. Boulevard, except
when it's Harry van Ardsdale Jr. Avenue.
