...it probably is. I was really hot and pretty tired as I mounted up for the last leg of the ride. In swinging my leg over, I didn't quite get the height and the flimsy-looking setup that adorns the top of every USE seatpost popped apart. One of the skinny bolts broke off inside the top bracket.
Fortunately I was only a half-mile or so from the end of the ride. The Camelbak came in handy to shove the saddle & the remains of my seatpost into. Riding without a seat is REALLY interesting.
Now I get to see how good their service is. Somehow I get the feeling this isn't such an unusual thing for them.

Was that the Alien clamp or the earlier design? The Alien looked stronger than the original to me.

I had the original and went through 3 or 4 top clamp sets, I used to buy an extra one to keep as a spare. Why it took me so long to buy a new seatpost I can't figure out.

That's a nice offer, and I appreciate it. Unfortunately, the rest of the clamp kit fell off while I was riding the rest of the way - that just happened to be the part sticking out the top of the Camelbak. :-(
