Ideas on how to clean a chorme messenger bag?

You could soak it with some oxyclean in the sink for a while. Some people have used washing machines on a gentle cycle, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't really want to invest in oxyclean since I don't think I'll use it for anything else.
Do you think shampoo will damage the bag?

I'm pretty sure ballistic Nylon is tougher than your hair.

Any mild soap from a diluted dish soap to bath soap to shampoo ain't going to kill it. Maybe use a soft bristle brush and lukewarm water.

• Lay flat to dry

As long as you don't use water that is too damned hot, the shower/shampoo idea is good to go. And [censored] that [censored] about not getting the buckle wet. WTF? Like that thing don't get drowned on the street?

Just hose it down with WD40 while it dries and after it is thoroughly dried. The WD stands for "Water Displacer". It will dry out just fine.
