Yes, and I have done this (several times, actually). It seems like it is
pending moderator approval or something.

we'll see if I get on. So far, I just got the message that the moderator

I joined recently with no problem, but then switched to digest mode
because I was getting too many individual messages.

OK, Travis, here's the deal:
Joe, the list moderator, has been "really careful about funny-looking names
or mismatched names and
addresses. Some I simply delete; others I attempt to verify." Because I
attempted to test the registration with my "spam drop" e-mail addresses, he
didn't like mine, either.

Joe suggests "Have your friend mail me directly and also send a subscription
request."

I'm not putting Joe's e-mail here on this list, as Joe would not like that.
I don't know whether your e-mail is a legit e-mail or disguised
(mouse-potato.com in my address isn't real, for example), so I'm also
posting this here..
