Y'all recall that I spent lots of time and took lots of pics at the NORBA Nat's at Schweitzer last year? I burned all 100+ photos on a CD and gave them to Wendy of Round and Round, the promoter that puts on the WIM pnw race series
I was at the gym on the elliptical the other rainy day, and on the FOX sports channel they were running an ad for the WIM series, with a slide show of photos, with many of mine. It took a moment to register what I was seeing. So if any of you in the PNW see that add, you can think of me. ;-)

Having your work on TV is just as cool or cooler than actually being on TV.

Cool. Nice job! My wife has been taking photos for the newspaper lately, so needless to say there's been lots of cycling coverage in the local paper recently. It cool to see her work published and the money isn;t bad either!

getting paid? Now there's an idea. I don't consider my self a "photographer" at all, just a connoisseur of snapshots. But I guess if I take enough pics, I'll get a good one every now and then.

She read an ad in the paper that said something like "We need photos! To you like to take photos? Please contact...".
So she emailed them and asked about it. They asked for samples so she sent in a bunch of recent photos and they printed five of them the first week (at $15 each). They are pretty much snapshots, but she does have a good eye for it. They are all on point-n-shoot equipment (either 2 or 3.2 MP Sonys).
So now she goes to local events (Kindergarten graduation, Dog walk/run Humane society benefit, etc) and takes photos whenever she can. Pretty cool deal!

Hmmm... Considering what a freelance photo journalist gets paid, the newspaper is getting off quite cheap. I never really liked those freelancers anyway. Pushy [censored] who get in front of you when your trying to take carnage photos.

True, but they have a bigger investment in their equipment, and (hopefully) lots of experience. She's just out snapping photos (which she does a lot anyway) and now gets compensated for it if they like 'em. I imagine it could lead to bigger and better things if it works out and that what she wants to do. This isn't exatly the New York Times either, it's a small town weekly paper.
