It's not mountain biking but I think it's kind of cool. I got to ride
my mountain bike through the Anaheim Convention Center.

true but unfortunately the winters been pretty mild and the trails have been
a bit muddy so (most) everybody tries to say off of them to keep then in
good shape.
if it's any constellation 99% of the bikes where Mountain bikes (of some
kind) and most of the riding was up hill....

Welcome to the group. We all a bunch of collective a-holes with a big
superiority complex, so if anyone seems like a total jerkoff, don't take it
personally. Some of us have motobikes, too, so feel free to discuss.

One is a big, blue and white, the other brown then there is the green
Outback with the 4 banger boxer and finally the latest beige Liberty with
the 4 banger turbo diesel that almost matches the torque of my '95 Chevy 454
with nearly three times the fuel economy. And they all carry a minimum of
four mountain bikes.......some just better than others

So far with combined city/hgwy driving I'm averaging close to 24 mpg but
only have 4000 miles on the engine, hardly broken in. Others driving this
vehicle claim mpg in the low 30's ???? A friend has the v6 gasser Liberty
and get's about 13-17. I usually get about 10 mpg with the 454 (long bed
extended cab with shell) and the other chevy blazer (full size '83) with the
upgraded 400 cid gets about 9, if I'm lucky. The Sube gets anywhere from 17
to 33 depending on if the bikes are on top, speed and where I'm at. Driving
the Sube from T-ride over to Angel Fire NM I got 33 with skis on top using
85 octane fuel....go figure. Rattles like crazy here in PHX using 87
octane.
too bad diesel prices started to exceed regular gas prices right at the time
I bought the Jeep :-(
More info than asked for......

The Liberty sounds good. Your Subaru probably knocks on 87 octane in
Phoenix because of the altitude and heat. High alt, and cold means very
little knock in a normally aspirated engine. They sell us cheaper (low
octane) gas here in Colorado, but charge us more. :-P
('Course a lot of that is tax)

Still probably come out ahead.
