  1. Getting tired of being pack-fill in cycling races, I decided to take
running. I've always run some, on average about an hour a week. So I
entered my first marathon. Finished in the top 100 out of 1000. Now that
got me thinking, here I have been wasting all my time being pack-fill when I
could have been a contender. Unlike Lance, who says only people with pencil
legs can do well, I followed my cycling regimen on diet and exercise and I
think most cyclists would surprise themselves on how well they can do.
Running is kind of liberating, no drafting, wondering how many performance
enhancing drugs the guy who sprinted up the climb were on, it's just plain
fun. Lance is fat on beer, and Hollywood dining, that's why he flopped. It
was a publicity stunt anyway, why did he pick NYC for his first marathon?
Because that's where the media and cameras are. Did he beat his ex-wife's
marathon time, maybe that's why he entered.

    dumbass,

drafting is the basis for most of the tactics that makes mass start
    cycling interesting.

  3. for someone so down on cycling, you sure picked an odd place to post a
statement ripping apart the sport and the sport's undisputed king. i
feel i have to pose the following question: why do you think anyone who
reads this forum would care about the fact that you couldn't cut it as
a cyclist and subsequently threw in the towel on the sport? quit your
whining, throw on a pair of running shoes and go be the quitter you
are. good luck with those inevitable shin splints.

Yes, but thanks to the liberating sport of running, CV's performance is
no longer held back by his lack of tactical acumen.

    It's a good thing I'm race-smart,

???Undisputed king of the sport?? Not exactly, he has won lots of TdFs,
back to back but a cycling 'king' he is not. Winning the other grand
tours, winning some classics, other races, maybe but there is only one
King, and he is Eddy Merckx.
