  1. I still have not started WW. Everytime I come here and read
posts, I get really inspired, then I think well, I will
start next week. I want to lose weight really bad. I just
have to MAKE my myself go I guess.

  2. Well, noone here is forcing you to go. When you'll be ready
    to go, you'll be ready.

Why not make one goal for yourself. Journal everything that
is going into your mouth for a week. That's the only deal
you need to make with yourself. That way you know what
you're eating. If week one goes well, try to keep
journaling, but eat smaller portions of what you normally
    eat. Just keep journaling everything.

This is very good advice! It will horrify you though...
and that may be the kick-start you need! Give yourself a
    little target:

Journal just one day: write down every single mouthful of
    solid food and liquid.

Have you had enough water (no, tea and coffee don't count!)?
    8 glasses a day...

Have you had your fruit and veggies? 5 portions a day. How
    many snacks did you have?

Do it again the next day... and the next... Take one day at
a time until you have a week's worth. Look at the whole
week. After those first few days, do you see a trend? Maybe
you have already started by cutting down on some of those
snacks, drinking more water, getting your fruit & veggies...
Or maybe you can see where the problems lie and can start
    planning where to change things.

This isn't a diet, it's a plan to help you eat healthily for
the rest of your life, and it takes a little time to adjust,
    mentally as well as physically.

  5. It will not be free forever (G)

But only you can decide. My friend urged me to go for a
year. A photo finally sent me running! (G) It was not free
when I signed up but was worth it anyway.

  6. I just started WW and trust me, I know the feeling you're
going through! My weight has been a fight all my life and I
did many diets (including WW) as a teenager only to find I
    made myself miserable.

So I know that you've been hearing from doctors that you
should lose weight (I need to lose it for sleep apnea
problems) and every time you go to replace a piece of
clothing, you know you should lose weight, but it never
seems to be something you have to do today.

Here's what finally got me to go:

I'm getting married in a year. It suddenly occured to me
that if I was at my wedding, I would be so upset if the
thought ran through my mind "If I had just lost 1 lb a week
since I was thinking about starting a year ago, I would be
50 lbs lighter for my wedding pictures today"

How many times have you thought about losing weight? Did you
think about it a month ago? If you had started when you were
thinking about it, you would be _____ closer to success
today. Personally, I'm sick of looking backwards at my life
    like that.

You will be here a year from now, do you still want to
be thinking about it or do you want to be basking in
    your success?

When I was thinking about it, I purchased a membership and
12 weeks worth of meetings online so it would be prepaid.
The guilt of spending money helped get me to walk in the
    door last Monday.

So here I am, finishing the end of week one. It's not so
bad. It's a little frustrating having to think about what
you eat but I'm finding that end the of day, I'm scrambling
to get the rest of my points eaten.

    Alex

  7. Congrats on the impending marriage and best of luck with WW.

When I finally went to the meeting, I also purchased the
multiple coupon offer. I figured that I was committed. I
recall coming home from the meeting and figured I would
start counting points the NEXT day. At lunch I decided why
put it off - just START NOW. So I added up breakfast, then
added in lunch and off I went.

Yes, "worrying" about food was a new issue but it is
necessary if one has an eating/weight problem. There is no
avoiding that reality. Before I might hesitate (worry or
think) but shove it in my mouth anyway. So it was there but
    maybe not as up-front.

So while at first I occasionally wanted to eat "normally"
again and not have to think about how much or portions or
what I was eating, I had to face the fact that I had NOT
BEEN EATING NORMALLY. Thinner friends, as I thought about
it, were eating normally - much less than I ate.

WW works. So again, good luck with your first weigh-in.

  8. Great post Alex! And congrats on making that decision to
finally start working on your health, and on your upcoming
marriage. I didn't have a marriage to push me into making
that ultimate decision to finally do SOMETHING about my
weight, I was just sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Tired of making excuses, tired of waiting for tomorrow ...
which never seemed to come. I sucked it up, got brave and
visited the ww website, joined the online program (I am not
a meeting type person) for 3 months and never looked back. I
found the first week to be fun, experimenting with changing
recipes and filling the house with fruits and veggies ...
the second week was even more fun, as I had the extra
motivation from losing even a few pounds. Each week led to
the next, and before I knew it I was at goal (over a year
later, but the time really did fly). And had I not sucked it
up 2 years ago? I still would be sitting at close to 230.
NO! I probably would be OVER that amount. <sigh> Instead, I
am now basking in my success (as you so eloquently put) and
enjoying every darn moment of it. I wish the same for you,
and hope you find your journey to be as enlightening and
    enjoyable as I did.

  9. Steph, you may just not be ready yet ... and that's ok. I
was the same way, took me several months before I finally
gave in to the idea. I knew I had to lose weight, but the
motivation just wasn't there. And without the motivation,
success doesn't come easily - at least for me. For me, what
finally made me take the first step was receiving recent
holiday pictures from my sis-in-law - was an eye opener to
see myself as others see me. And I didn't much like it. I
hated the idea of attending meetings, I am not a meeting
person, so figured ww wasn't for me and didn't know how or
where to start to tackle things on my own. I heard through
friends of mine who were attending ww meetings, that ww
offered an online program ... I looked into it, signed up
immediately, and the rest is history. Not once did I look
back. Each and every day I am thankful that I started. Each
and every day I continue, even though I have reached my
    final goal.

If you REALLY want it bad, then I think you just have to dig
your heels in and take charge immediately. Putting things
off is what led all of us here. It does take some soul
searching though. Good luck in whatever decision you make.

  12. Good luck with your journey. When you are ready to lose the
weight then that is when you'll join. No one is pressuring
you into joining. You'll know when you are ready. In the
meantime, enjoy the newsgroup and the ideas that are posted.
Maybe you'll pick up some ideas so that at least you are
    eating healthy.
