I really am starting to dislike this JC guy. At first I thought he
may offer the right to the point advise, which I am openminded. Then I
tried to joke back to him, now he is just pissing me off, is there a
way to block his posts so I cant read his moronic comments. I mean you
dont kick people when they are down. There is something not cool with
this in my book. HELP ME BLOCK THIS [censored]!!

I cannot give you the technical details, but if you are using Outlook
Express or any of the common news readers, there are specific ways to
block messages from JC. Let us know how you are accessing the
newsgroup and someone can give you the specifics.I know you've already been told this, but JC is a troll. Just because
he occasionally says something useful doesn't make him less of a
troll. And being a troll, he gets off on seeing someone (like you) get
all flustered and angry at one of his obnoxious posts.So... don't even open his posts. Don't respond to them. We all know
he's pathetic. Your responses just feed his behavior.HG

completely. Still, as long as usenet exists, you must deal with such types.
One can killfill, or just learn to ignore. Actually, ignoring is a good
skill to develop because that means you can play when you want and not when
you don't. It puts you in the driver's seat. Personally, the only person I
KF is Chung since I don't ever want to allow myself to even "play" in this
thread - too much of a waste of time. Everyone else I just ignore if it
suits me at the time. Other times, it's game on! And ignoring those who
spew BS at you has real power, believe it or not. -

I am curious. Why do you need an aid to *not* read a person's posts?
The whole point of killfiles was to save time and money back in the days
when modems were slow and downloads were expensive. They serve no
*genuine* purpose now.Just ignore him if you don't like him. Don't be so soft skinned, usenet
is full of people far worse than JC. If you filter them all you will
spend more time managing filters than reading posts. He can be an [censored] at times, it is his niche, but when he is not
pissing people off with suicide suggestions (I have no idea what
satisfaction he gets from it) he can contribute, even if in a negative,
blunt, and decidedly non-PC way.Regards
David

:: thanks, I just figured it out!!! He is gone from my life!!!!!!!Well, dear , he was not really a part of your life. You can't take posters
on newsgroups that seriously. You have to have some detachment here. Many
people here are total strangers and could care less about you. So why let
them under your skin? -

this in my book. HELP ME BLOCK THIS [censored]!!Go ahead and killfile me too, because I wouldn't hire you either based
on what I've read here. JC likes to be terse, but I'll explain why:First, your attitude seems to be that it's terribly inconvenient and
unfair for a job interview to include tests of basic writing and math
abilities. That attitude needs an adjustment right there. For any job
worth having, there will be far more applicants than positions
available, and the decision makers need some sort of weeding-out
process. Even if writing and math are not needed for the job, they are
indicative of what kind of mind someone has.Second, you said you don't need to work, you just want to. That came
across here as kind of arrogant. If that attitude showed even just a
little in your interview, I wouldn't hire you. There are plenty of
people who _do_ need to work, and I'd prefer to have someone with a
little fear of getting fired if they screw up rather than someone who
might just say "Oh, well, if they fire me, so what, I don't even need
the money."Third, the tone of your complaint here seemed way out of proportion to
what actually happened. It read like you saw it as some great tragedy,
on a group which has seen some actual tragedies expressed in a more
understated way than you used. You're bored, so you went on an
interview, you probably didn't get the job. Big whoop. Only boring
people are ever bored for a significant amount of time anyway. It's not
the world's responsibility to keep you entertained, hand you a job, hand
you a purpose in life, or give you something to be passionate about.
Because there are many kind people here, they've tried to help you
anyway, by making suggestions of charity work you could do since you
don't need money anyway, but so far you've ignored all those
suggestions. If you can't think of anything you're passionate enough
about to donate your time to, that's a much more fundamental problem
with you than just not having a job, and getting a job won't fix it. -
you are wrong, and not very nice. I am not arrogent at all, I have
worked since I was 14 and never have been unemployed. Second this was
a few dollars an hour almost minimum wage job, had nothing to do with
math or english. It was over the top. And this is a big blow to me
not to work so who are you to say that this not a terrible situation
for me. I am very polite on these interviews, and did nothing wrong.
The HR lady mis communicated to me to and said I got the instruction
wrong, that I was to met Gert. I was told that , instead I sucked it
up and said I am sorry I mis understood you. I know that she made the
mistake. Now I am out . Why are you being so mean to me Luna, what
did you gain some weight ???? Please , I did not deserve that nasty
post from you. I have gone out of my way to except in my life taking
care of cancer victim, mentally ill, developmentally disable, and brain
injured people so dont give me [censored]. I worked hard in the social work
field , so I just want an easier job than that for awhile due to burn
out. Thank you anyway for your thought -
and by saying I dont need to work, that was not a put down on anyone.
I have saved most of my money and worked my ass off to get that.
This was not inherited, I worked 20 years to save for this and lived
very meager. Please dont be so harsh, maybe you make a few good
points but what is my problem is a problem to me. Just like if
someone's problem is that they gained a lb or can't loose weight what
minor to you may not be minor to them. Now a guy just totalled my car
at 130 pm today , so maybe I am having a bad day too. -

at 130 pm today , so maybe I am having a bad day too.Maybe. I'm not trying to be harsh, or at least not overly harsh. Maybe
I'm trying for the appropriate level of harshness. There's a saying
that we always hate in others what we hate in ourselves, which I don't
think is 100% true but in this case it applies. I have a tendency to
get overly upset about small things. I have a tendency to complain
about the unfairness of the world. The way I'm trying to correct these
things in myself is to realize that whether or not I am happy is almost
entirely dependent on how I choose to view things. I can't control
everything that happens to me, but I can control my attitude towards it.
I think if, in a job interview, I was given a test which seemed much
harder than the actual job would be, I might have a twinge of "that's
not fair" but I would instead choose to think "Maybe this job is harder
than I thought it would be. Maybe there are things about it I don't
know. Or maybe they want to know from the get-go who's likely to move
up in the company. Or, maybe the job rocks so much that they can afford
to be picky." And then I would do my best, because after all they don't
owe me a job. And if an interviewer claimed to have given me
instructions that he or she did not in fact give, I don't know that I'd
be complaining about it so much as thankful that I found out ahead of
time I'd be working for flakes if I did get the job. -

one, Luna. And maybe because you tend to be dramatic, often over
things that don't seem like a big deal to the rest of us, and you
con't like that in yourself. If it helps, Luna, I have always enjoyed your occasional forays into
drama queendom. But I hope you can learn to be a little more
charitable to others with similar traits. Don't adopt the JC model of
interaction, whatever ya do. Just not constructive for anyone,
especially JC. (Can you imagine his karma... lol!)Anyway, personally I find job applications/interviews daunting. I take
them personally, and probably too seriously. Intellectually I know one
job isn't that big a deal, but it feels like it is. Even if I didn't
want the job all that much!Maybe Catskills is like that. I think you owe her an apology,
personally.HG

the last sentence is the smartest thing you said. Well at least you
have the balls to speak your mind with a good argument. Sorry for
being an ass. I had a bad day and I am feeling sick. My hands hurt,
and I am emotionally just at the breaking point so I am sorry. -

overly harsh, because my intention wasn't to hurt you. Nor was my
intention to coddle you, either, because that doesn't help me one bit
when I'm feeling sorry for myself. I was aiming for "reality check",
but I very well may have hit the "[censored] switch" instead. I'm sorry. -

agree with him on an objective level, just not maybe with the way he
says it. Like the whole "butch up" thing. Sometimes that honestly _is_
the only solution to some problems.Quoted message said:
Anyway, personally I find job applications/interviews daunting. I take
them personally, and probably too seriously. Intellectually I know one
job isn't that big a deal, but it feels like it is. Even if I didn't
want the job all that much!Hmm. I guess my theater background helped me learn to deal with
rejection. If I don't get a job, it doesn't mean I suck as a person, it
just means the interviewer didn't see me as a good fit for that job or
vice-versa.I also think my response to catskills had something to do with the way I
was raised vs. the way the world works. I have a very strong work
ethic, because of my father's example to me. I've always viewed a job
as something you have to work hard to get and work hard to keep, yet in
various places I've worked I've had coworkers who show up late, or
forget to show up at all, do crappy work, and even steal, and they don't
get fired. And it kind of pisses me off and makes me wonder what the
hell I'm working so hard for. And yet, it isn't in me to be a slacker.
So that's led me to believe that maybe some jobs are just too damn easy
to get, and maybe you should have to jump through some hoops in an
interview.Quoted message said:

GOOD MORNING!!! You know Luna, I did some thinking and maybe your a
right on a few interview tips. FIrst point saying or if not saying but
coming off like I dont need to work, the more I think about it , I see
your point. They may not see it the way its meant . So after some
long thought, I plan to change my skill around alittle and see. I have
2 interviews today, don't know if its a match for me but it certainly
is good practice. So maybe you do have a valid point , you really got
me thinking, and I guess I need to change my attitude a bit on these
interviews -
