Soft plastic probably won't last all that well. My preferred shim bodge
is a bit of tin can (those ring-pull catfood cans are good) - if you use
the top edge you can leave the lip on so it doesn't disappear into the
frame.

beautiful, expensive machines should be polluted with a bit of litter

Ahh yes, seat post diameters, I'd forgotten that, another one for my
list of "When I Become World Leader" I *will* sort out.

The bear minimum will be diametrs where you can *see* the difference.
