I spent my voucher on an SRAM cassette to lower the gearing on my road bike.
Still prefer Woodrups which, incidentally, is expanding and is in the middle
of a major rebuild lloks like there is a burgeoning demand for cycling in
Leeds. I doubt that I'll go to EBC as first choice. I'd rather give my
money to Steve Woodrup.

Was there a week ago. Didn't have all the stock I was expecting e.g. not
as much as JEJames in Sheffield (but that's two shops I suppose). I had
a sudden question which they couldn't answer (fell back on "we don't
advise it"😉: why can't I put a 700C/28 tube in a 700C/32 tyre? (the box
is quite a lot smaller to carry around) I really don't see what the
problem would be given non-aggressive usage.

I had need of a small part from a cantilever brake system, the adjuster
housing thingummy bob that screws into the rear bridge thingy on the seat
stays that was absent on the restoved Super Galaxy frame that I'm building
into my LEJOG bike for this year's big ride. My other Galaxy frame had the
fuction served by a brazed on bridge with an integral tapped housing. My
need exposed the lack of knowledge of the staff left running the store
today. They hadn't got a clue what I was talking about despite me producing
an accurately drawn sketch of the part and a comprehensive description of
its function. One of the lads advised my that the brakes would work
perfectly well without it and that microadjustment was unecesarry and that
coarse adjustment by pulling more cable through the clamp would suffice if I
couldn't adjust the brakes at the lever end - the numpty.

Incidentally does anyone know the technical term for the thingummy bob that
I need? ;-)

You probably could, but the tube would be more stretched and thinner
than usual so perhaps more prone to puncture.

Easier than trying to fit a too wide tube into a too small tyre though!

By 'non agressive usage' I take it you mean fitting the tube without
having to resort to the usual rather violent but effective method of
extreme brute force combined with much profane language and gnashing of
teeth! (unless that's just me! )

I'm not sure if you mean a separate cable hanger (with adjuster) that
attaches to the seatpin binder bolt or if you're just after an
adjustable cable stop (as used in ATB brake levers) to fit in a plain
brazed-on cable hanger.

I see no reason why not. I have in the past used a 19 mm tube in a 28
mm section tyre without ill-effects - that being what ICE put inside
Stelvios on new Tricen.

Er, yes. I have before now doubled up a tube (probably an old 27" tube
in a 700C tyre) and it worked fine since air could get to it from either
direction.

Actually I meant non-aggressive cycling, including the constant
avoidance of pot-holes, which ought to mean the extra strength of the
thicker tube walls is never needed.

I believe it's a 'duberry' you're looking for. I've also heard it called a
'barrel adjuster' while Fibrax call it an 'M6 cable adjuster'.
