    It's a bloody miracle.

    I am too, but it sure as hell isn't a miracle. We've had 95F to 103F here
    Arcadia, CA for about the last 10 days it seems, which finally broke a little
    this afternoon.

    Despite the heat, have seen a few contingents of the local HS XC'ers out
    getting some work in. (The track is off limits right now). Those of you who
    follow HS track may be interested to know that the Arcadia Invitational will
    have a new look next year, as they've closed the track for about 60 days to
    totally renovate the facility. This event has grown in prestige so much
    nationally that they are giving it the facelift it deserves. Of course, the
    rest of us locals will reap some benefit from the improved facilities, too.

  4. Take 2 aspirin, it helps if you have a bad blistering burn that will peel.
    You have basically cooked your skin, so the aspirin helps to take the
    inflammation down a bit, (or ibuprofen, if you can take that) You can end up
    pretty ill from even a mild burn...fever and all.
    just my 2 cents,
    hope the rest of your holiday is better!
    And from now on use sunscreen.

    hemmoroid. If punctuation and spelling bother you that much, you need to get a

    Hi, Teresa! 🙂 Yes, the doctors do need advice. It took a blasted SEVEN
    doctors to finally diagnose this gol'blessed dystonia, which is going to be my
    partner for life. Running is out of the picture for me, at least in this life.
    I want to come back as a ... whichever animal runs fleetly and freely. Well,
    'could indeed be worse.
    Run free, run hard, be thankful. 🙂

    ~~~~~~~
    Bill, it is a movement disorder, in kinda the same family as Parkinson's--the
    difference being that it is not degenerative. It IS, however, very painful--it
    moves in a pattern in my foot, and about two days out of the week, my forefoot
    feels like it is in a meat grinder. Essentially, the movement that is
    initiated in the brain (or possibly from trauma, or a combination of both),
    twists the muscles. So, for every doctor who I told, "It feels like my muscles
    are twisting", and they replied back to me, "Muscles don't twist"...I will
    write a letter and tell them what they missed. Really, very few doctors have a
    background or experience with this, so, it makes sense that they would have
    missed it. It took two specialists, in turn, at a university hospital to
    figure this out.
    Wow, that is terrible that you'll no longer be able to run, but after reading
    my story a few weeks ago you should know that all isn't lost. I did some
    research on it at webmd, and it sounds very much like an occasional problem I
    have in my left foot, right along the line of where my nerve damaged part
    ajoins the undamaged part. Very strange spasms going on there.
    Do muscle relaxers help? I know they suck, but if it gets you relief it maybe
    worth it to take on the worse days.
    I know what you mean about Dr's, many seem like they just don't listen to you.
    I'm sorry to hear this diagnosis. However, it could have been far, far
    worse. Not that that's much compensation.
    Which only goes to prove two things. Firstly, that doctors are like
    everyone else - i.e. they come in all varieties - good/bad, happy/sad,
    committed to their patients/uncomitted...blah, blah, blah. The sooner
    people accept that the responsibility for maintenance of their health *and*
    the provision of appropriate medical care when they are sick rests solely
    with themselves, the more soundly I'll sleep at night.
    Were I minded, I might say;
    "There exists no illness or medical condition about which a complete
    understanding of our current knowledge of its causes and treatment cannot be
    attained by a motivated person of reasonable intelligence."
    However, this places a heavy burden on some. They prefer to let others
    share the load or determine the direction of travel. Me? I'll carry my
    own rucsac and choose my own path, thank you very much. I think you should
    too.
    General Discussion
    Dystonia is a group of movement disorders that vary in their symptoms, causes,
    progression, and treatments. This group of neurological conditions is generally
    characterized by involuntary muscle contractions that force the body into
    abnormal, sometimes painful, movements and positions (postures).
    Dystonia may be focal (affecting an isolated body part), segmental (affecting
    adjacent body areas, or generalized (affecting many major muscle groups
    simultaneously). There are many different causes for dystonia. Genetic as well
    as non-genetic factors contribute to all forms of dystonia. The most
    characteristic finding associated with dystonia is twisting, repetitive
    movements that affect the neck, torso, limbs, eyes, face, vocal chords, and/or
    a combination of these muscle groups.
    There's two main reasons for that. First, nobody will touch it or carry it for
    you, second they are about the size of dried up raisins, so they should be easy
    to carry.
    Oh, I'd never say that. There are heaps and heaps of things far worse than
    death.
    However, in the overall scheme of things, I suspect that 'not being able to
    run' is but a minor bump in what has been - for Mary - a life filled with
    remarkable success and resounding disappointment. Never judge the quality
    of the film 'til the credits roll. Right, Mary?
    Point well taken, Zow!!!!!!!!! It's been a journey of discovery over the
    years... it's been a thinking process... a "confound it", process... it's been
    a "somebody else HAS to have experienced this, but where are they?" process...
    so, now it is finality. But, it will still be a mystery, as it works its way
    into possible progression...we will see. I'm on 1800 mgs of medicine that is
    used for epilepsy, to help control the spasms and pain. From there, possibly
    botox injections. Oh, I'll probably be back again, to rant. Meanwhile, I am
    biking and walking.
