I'm liking the Epic

Seems like Specialized is a respected product.

Well, I don't kow about empirical (no control group), but I like mine (look
up my Epic posts for more detail).
I've ridden my S-Works pretty hard for a year and a half and just had the
brain shock fail, but Specialized replaced it in less than a week for free.
Other than that, no complaints.

I've got two friends with Epics that love them.

As for Specialized, search the recent threads for testimonies. They're great
bikes, in my opinion.

I'll vouch for what Matt says. Mine's been doing pretty well since
August of last year. No complaints, no parts failures. It's become my
main off-road ride.

About 185 now,
my pre injury running weight was about 155
which is what I'm figuring I'll move towards
when I ride the trails with the same frequency
I used to run them.

Went out yesterday to buy it, see the same person
in the store, Oh No says he, I haven't had an epic
here in three weeks. All sold out. The Marathon I
saw there must have been an illusion. He offered that
he could order it and checking, found that it would take
two weeks. I said that I didn't really want to commit
buying a bike I hadn't ridden...he shrugged. Meanwhile
I'm there to BUY A BIKE but numbnuts just stands there,
no ideas, no suggestions. I leave, [censored] and disappointed.

I swing by another store, some kid asks what I want then tells
me he's going to get someone who can help me better.
Honesty, a cool concept. He brings out a guy who as it
turns out KNOWS bikes. Especially mountain.
Four hours later I left with a new bike, tools, shoes, lock, helmet...
And the local website for mountain bikers and a copy of a sketch
of a new trail they found a few weeks ago, 20 something miles.

The bike is the Iron Horse HollowPoint Expert. Seems to have
enough to keep me happy for the next few years.

I walked in ready, no, TRYING to spend over two grand
and a dumbass "dude" managed to turn me off and chase me out.
Feel sorry for the guy who signs his paycheck.
And happy he pushed me to find a good shop.

Happened to me too. I live three blocks (same street) from one of two
LBSs. Went in looking at $2K bikes, same manufacturer as I'd been
riding (how easy can a sale be?), ready to buy. "Yeah OK, that's
cool..." No offer for test ride, no attempt to tell me about the bikes
etc. Nice guys, just no help.
The other LBS, a brutal six block hike from my house, practically shoved
me out the door for a test ride on the bike I ended up buying. They've
now sold my wife, my son, and myself bikes, and lots of other stuff. I
think I got a patch kit and a trailer adapter for our "fifth wheel"
(tagalong? whatever) from the other shop.
Don't worry about the dumbass dudes or the guys who hire them. Charles
Darwin created a good theory that describes their fate.

Sounds like he has a money problem. Special 'ed has both east and west
warehouses, The shipping time should be more like 3 or 4 days.

He may be stupid or he may have figured that there wasn't anything
that he stocked that approached the Epic. Figure as a Special 'ed
dealer he has access to the Stupie FSR Expert ... similar price but
not designed with the same purpose im mind. My guess id the guy is
slow on the uptake ... low on cash ... and in fear of going out of
business.
