  1. Ok, well, I posted the news article "First time marathon goal"

Anyhow, thanks to the few encouraging replies that I got.. It was very nice
of you guys/girls to reply.. I do plan on dropping some Wight, and I do
plan on finishing... and maybe not even stop for a walk break.. Also, to
those ignorant people who made comments about "fat people" - well... It
made me realize two things... 1. How nice it feels to have a wife and
kids, lots off nice/good friends... and be a good person, (dinks don't have
many friends) - so I do feel bad for you... and 2. Just how much I want to
run this one now... (more than before).

    I'm in! see ya there..

PS: Someone asked which one it was.. its the Scotia Waterfront in Toronto...

I'm glad! just dont do too much too soon. galloway has a nice, gentle
program to get started and runnersworld also has good advice for beginners
as to how to slowly and safely build up mileage.

dont take anyone too seriously in here when they say something negative and
verify any advice that may be given even if it seems reasonable.

Good luck. BTW, according to the BMI scale Brad Pitt is obese.

from here.. same stratagy, and wight loss..

    Thanks again! I'm excitied...

According to this page, Brad Pitt is not obese:

    http://www.clevelandseniors.com/health/obese.htm

    ``Brad Pitt: 6'0": 203 lbs: BMI 28''

sorry. you're right. i meant "overweight". do you think he's overweight?

Now, according to the same page, Arnols Schwarzenegger is obese
    according to the BMI measurement:

    ``Arnold Schwarzenegger: 6'2": 257 lbs: BMI 33''.

    that's pretty funny.

    Quoted message said:

I am not sure whether Arnold would have an easy time running long
distances. All his impressive fitness accomplishments centered around
    weight training.

  7. Thanks Ignoramus 🙂

I do plan on seeing a doctor too (wife won't let me even run untill I have a
full physical)... so we'll see... I also figure, a few months of running,
and some changes to the diet.. (probably cutting out cream in coffees,
icecream and junk) - just a regular training diet... nothing drastic.. I
should be able to drop 30lb by summer.. my concern was I won't be running
light until perhaps May/June... but I probably wont' start langer distances
    till then... (i.e. over 20K).

Rick, your enthusiasm does not in any way diminish the need to talk to
a doctor about suitability of long distance running at your
weight. Also, all you have to lose is about 45 lbs, it is not a huge
amount of weight and you can do it in a few months (say 5 months),
    leading to the marathon.

    two words...30/30/30/30

30 seconds running, 30 seconds walking, 30 minutes, for 30 days. or
something like that. look on runnersworld.com.

covering 4 miles walking burns almost the same amount of calories as running
(plodding in our case) so dont sweat how long it takes you just get out
there and do the 4 miles or whatever you feel up to!

stop putting cream in your coffee you big girl.
stop listening to to your wife you big girl
get out and move your ass.

I was going to ask that. Perhaps with inuryanus' years of marathon

My hope is that running will be easier for him if he loses weight and

becomes closer to the "ideal weight". Even for purely mechanical
reasons. Less fat weight to carry means easier running.
