Pissing down here, too, and I've chickened out as well.

I did 24 miles yesterday, and didn't enjoy a single second of it. I
think that's the first time it's happened to me. It was cold enough that
I didn't want to ride in just a jersey, but warm enough to make me
sweat, which of course started making me chilly. Then the first couple
of hilly bits left my legs feeling dead, and for stretches it was an
effort just to keep the pedals turning over. I got to Merthyr, bought
myself a gilet in Aldi (which helped enormously on the warmth front)
and got straight on a train back down the valley. Got off at Abercynon,
and cycled the 7 miles or so home from there.

So, I was hoping to blow off some cobwebs this morning, but sod it. If I
didn't enjoy cold and dry, I won't enjoy cold and wet.

I had a training session with some children 35 miles away, so set off in
the vague hope the rain would stop by the time I reached them.
An hour into my ride, Mum called and it was the children who wimped out,
so I've taken the scenic route back home.

Kids of today - no guts ;-)

Well I've just come back from a short ride and managed, apart from a few
very light spots, to avoid getting wet. The roads around Market Harborough
were wet but back here in the 'burbs of south Leicester all is dry at the
moment.
Mind you, I'm feeling a bit under par so at least don't feel as if I'm
missing out and will be happy to sit back and watch the carnival on the
Champs Élysée this afto while it pees down outside.

I went out to do my usual 40 miles Sunday morning jaunt, I have a
fairing on the trike at the moment, but the weather was bad enough for
me to halve my ride, the rain was just to heavy to be enjoyable.

that I had never seen. The villages are the best feature of N Lincs from a
cycling perspective, IMO. I decied to walk up a massive hill (partly due to
road works that might have made things unsafe). The walking part knocked a
fair bit off my average speed. This is the second ride I've done with my
new Lidl cycle computer. At 6am the weather was quite overcast but after
about 30 mins I was begining to sweat and feel cold. The sort of conditions
where it is difficult to settle on the right combination of layers. No need
to use the suncream though :-)

First proper ride with Aldi cycle gloves and think that they do keep the
wind off finger tops and the back off hands. I can see that I am going to
get my 2.99 out of them.

I have started to travel without a daysack which is more comfortable but I
haven't yet settled on the best way to attach a flask to my rear rack so I
left it at home. I had a water bottle but a couple of tea stops would
probably have done more to raise my spirits.

I did 10.5 miles. 45 miles is still my record so, given the morale sapping
conditions, that represents a medium morning ride for me. I could have
extended the ride but I couldn't be bothered. A large part of my time was
spent fretting over whether I should break the law and use a 'private road'
and cut through the steel works or turn around and retrace about five miles
of my trip. Not a bad little ride. Had it begun to rain, the ride would
have crossed the line into miserable though.

The weather picked up later on and I did a quick run into town for a couple
things.

This morning, I decided to visit a car boot sale, down the road. About
three miles total but with a long hill on the way back that I wouldn't have
even considered attempting at the begining of the year.

19.1 miles over the two days. Average speed 10.2mph.

I can tell you for a fact that at approximately 7.45am this morning
Mr D Larrington was making his way back to London from Dunwich
'before the rain starts' and estimated he'd be home about 5.15pm [so
another, say, 8 1/2hr to go ] , and thus completing a sweet 240 miles
in one hit!. At that point the weather was fine, and we wished him
luck, and off he went. Couple of hours later it was p****** it down,
boy was I wondering about him as we're driving back to London. God
knows what kind of state he's in now. Bloke deserves the freedom of
London after that!

subscribe to their emails. Sooner or later stainless steel vacuum flasks
will appear. These will survive fine in a bottle cage, possibly with a sock
around them to cut down the racket. My choice is to put boiling water into

remains tasty even when the water in the lower part of the flask has cooled
off.

In my bookmarks folder I have this site, http://www.bikebuddy.co.uk, as
it looked like a good idea for fixing a flask/ 2ltr drinks bottle or
whatever to your bottle cage bosses. I've never felt the urge to
actually buy one yet, but have kept the link against future need 🙂 It
may be of use to you, and of course I'd be interested on anyone's
opinion who have actually got one of theses. Needless to say, I have no
affiliation with company who make them.
