Bike shops. I love them.
I go in to my LBS, have a natter with Chris, buy a few bits and get 10
percent off. I'm sure many others here get a similar deal at their
LBS.
I've yet to get the same deal in, for example, Sainsbury's or my local
papershop. It seems to be a (nearly) bike thing only.
And today it went a step further.
I went to Chas Roberts, frame builders to the South London gentry.
The Pedersen I'm looking after for that nice Helen Vecht had sprung a
joint, so needed a bit of TLC.
The guy there (Andrew?) took it to show his frame builder in the
bowels of the workshop, then told me it would be no problem. He
could, in fact, do it while I waited and suggested I go up the road to
the very nice cafe for half an hour. I had no cash, so started
muttering about walking down the town first. He looked a bit
perturbed. He then asked if I was paying for the repair by card, which
I confirmed I was. He then disappeared upsairs, got his wallet and
gave me a twenty pound note.
I went to the cafe, filled my face, returned. He added the twenty to
the bill and I waved my card around.
Just got get a respray now.
