I came, I saw, I got pished. Amongst the sweltering 4 Deg. C days (all 1 of them), I managed to get fully tanked up and convivial at a Pub called "Dirty Someone-or-other", where I learnt from a Granite City Dweller all about how to scam casino's, and also managed a counter-lunch with some nice pints of warm pish at somewhere else that I can't remember the name of.
The weirdest event of my trip from Perth, Australia to Aberdeen, Scotland for a 2-hour meeting was to run into a bloke on Union Street who lives down in Perth and I haven't seen for about 5 years. He and his wife were in that cold bugger of a place on holiday.
No wonder you people drink warm pish - you'd get frostbite of the liver if you tried to make things any colder. I, for one, was glad to then head down to cozy, warm West Africa and the comforts of the Equator where icey cold beer is barely cold enough.

Eoin,british beer is meant to enjoyed at the temperature that it is served.It brings out the flavour.A pint of 80/- doesn't taste the same when it's chilled.
I read somewhere that our taste-buds become numbed at around 6C...which is probably why europeans drink their beer at 8C and in oz it's served at around 4C...to conceal the lack of malt (replaced by cane sugar...cheaper) and the cheaper Pride of Ringwood hops,very bitter but no aroma.
I trust you enjoyed the local drop and not the awful slop that passes for british lager,no better than the equally awful slop that gets passed off as lager in oz.
I recently heard that the ancient German beer purity law (Rheinheitsgebot) has been scuppered by the EU.This insanity has gone too far...first the ancient birthplace of beer gets invaded by american barbarians,then the recipe for the perfect lager gets tampered with.
It's the end of civilisation as we know it.Let the muslims have it...I don't know if there's any reason to live any more.

Yep...[censored]!This was one of the original Pure Food Laws and it worked just fine for about 400 years or so.
Malt,hops,yeast and water.That seems to have worked for hundreds of years.It worked for thousands of brewers and it made billions of consumers happy.It was the perfect formula,allowing for creativity within those parameters.
To satisfy the handful of "brewers",ie corporate beer manufacturers...and increase profits.In oz,the beer is pumped full of cane sugar,in the us...corn sugar...in Britain...beet sugar(but less so,and it's traditional with many beers,in moderation)
As always,oz has led the world inthis regard.
Why aren't GreenPeace campaigning about this?

The final ignominy...america...the home of tasteless alcohol for the masses.....destroys the birthplace of beer!

Remember it's quantity over quality. It's the American way 🙄 No, seriously; my favorite drink is fine rum made from molasses. Also tequila is quite tasty. Both are western hemisphere creations. Europe (including Australia & New Zealand) have better beer. With the exception of some micro-breweries over here, this is beyond contention, no 😕

Most oz beer is very ordinary.So is most kiwi beer except for steinlager.Micro-brewers...Yessssss...the people fight back!
But even ordinary McEwans is good.

It still works fine for me. When at home, I make whole-grain brews that keep me happy and pure. Our retirement plan is for a brewery back up in North Thailand where we can charge Germans hideous sums to consume in accordance with their forgotten purity legislation.
Yes, SB, the Ales I sampled in the UK were fine, and worked their magic in a body-hugging manner. Whilst I was down in Equatorial Guinea for a couple of weeks, I was living off Cameroonian Castel as it was cheaper than water - it tastes kind of funny when you brush your teeth with it, though.

Lately, I've only been brushing my teeth with Sam Adams Boston Lager, Cuervo Black & Coke, or Lagavulin Single Malt. Forget finding a decent Watney's Stout over here. 🙁
