Well, #1 son (Rachel's younger brother) is 8 tomorrow. We went off to H*****ds to look at bikes a few weeks ago, mostly to get an idea of size, and then nothing more has been said.
So I have just got back from a trip to work where I retrieved a Giant MTX250 [1] from the bike shed, having gone to the LBS yesterday and parted with hard earned coppers[2].
No pictures of it or my kitchen as it is raining and I have just walked (honest!) it back a couple of k so t'other Dr M put the mockers on bringing it into the house for the AM. Instead he'll get a photo in an envelope with the ever so cryptic message 'look in the garage'.

I hope it isn't raining tomorrow.

V. nice. Sure to provoke severe over-excitement in young child. Does it have grip-shift style shifters? They're only described as "Microshift 18 speed" on the Giant website.

They are gripshift. He likes it though he is still nervous on a bike and not really very confident so is a bit slow in getting going. Severe shades of green on Rachel though who was mingeing[1] somewhat about not having such a good bike..
A few more sessions in the park and he'll get the hang of it.
