Quoted message said:Maybe losing weight fast has a wierd effect on the mind? Maybe I don't see
the truth? I still FEEL like a whale!! I knew a boy that killed himself in
high school. I think it was called Body Dismorphic Disorder. He had an
obsession with his nose and it was a fine and cute nose but for some reason
drove him insane.
I need to hit some hard core aerobics and get rid of all this fat I guess -
I just wanna be firm again.
Am I nuts?
Don't know if you are nuts or not, but adjusting mentally to your weight
is a real mixed bag. MOST of the time now when I look in the mirror or
see my reflection in a plate glass window or door, I'm THRILLED that my
body looks SOOO much smaller than it did -- it's still a surprise to me.
Sometimes, though, I look in my full-length bedroom mirror and I see
myself looking heavier -- unacceptably so (and that's my "GOOD" mirror
that I've always liked because my reflection DOES look thinner than it
does in other mirrors :-) I actually can look in the mirror and see
myself as relatively thin, then deliberately see myself as heavy, just
to note to myself that it really IS a matter of perception. It makes me
wonder what other people see if I can perceive it differently from one
moment to the next.
Mind you, I DO still need to lose another 20 lbs or so, but it's very
slow going, and now that I look more "normal", it's not so much of a
priority as it was. I'm still working toward it, but I don't have the
anxiety about it that I would have had at a higher weight. My anxiety
now centers more around how utterly flabby the now-excess skin and
remaining fat is. It's like jello, even when the muscles underneath are
hard :-(
